About this Cook
My life could be a sit-com. I teach junior high. I have 2 teenage boys, the older son's friends as semi-permanent houseguests, 2 dogs, 2 guinea pigs, a dwarf hamster, a large rabbit, and a box turtle. My husband works out of the house. Mayhem and hilarity ensue.
My favorite things to cook
Anything that looks appealing. I have been doing a lot of grilling, lately, so I am into marinades.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Unfortunately, neither of my parents knew how to cook. We ate the things they invented. The descriptions of some of the things they made are not fit to print on a cooking website.
My cooking triumphs
I belong to a gourmet cooking club, and often my dishes are the group's favorite. I don't gloat, but it makes me feel good inside.
My cooking tragedies
I don't have too many, but when I do, my family is very understanding. "No one hits a home run every time", my husband will say, as I call for takeout.

Chef John's Italian Meatballs
They didn't brown, but they tasted great and had a good texture. Next time I will add more pepper flakes - maybe 3/4 t. I didn't taste them at all.

Easy Cream Cheese Danish
These turned out great. I used "light" crescent rolls, which were fine. I also heated sugar-free blueberry jam, added some Splenda, and when it started to cool I spread it on top of the cream cheese before adding the top layer of rolls. In the future I will use light cream cheese and mix some Splenda into the cream cheese to reduce the calories even further. Definitely a keeper.

Lemon Basil Pesto Flat Iron Steak
I was looking for a recipe for basil-lemon pesto, so I did not serve it with meat. This only makes a small quantity, so I tripled the recipe to serve as side dish of pasta for 10. I added about 1/4 C lemon juice and 1 T lemon zest for a more lemony product. It went over well.
