Chef John's Make-Ahead Turkey Gravy

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2012
This gravy is amazing. A little time consuming but worth having that extra gravy on Thanksgiving. I ended up with 7 cups of gravy at the end because I used 14 cups of water at the broth-making stage. That's how much it took to completely cover the wings and veg. That's the only change I made. Definitely a keeper!

Chef John's Cottage Fries

Reviewed: May 15, 2012
These are the best little crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside potatoes I've ever eaten. Amazing! My son and I even loved them so much we made them two nights in a row! I can't wait to make these for the rest of my family. I did three 15 minutes sessions and then put them on the rack for another 10 minutes. Wonderful! Thank you Chef John!

Barbequed Marinated Flank Steak

Reviewed: Jun. 24, 2012
OMG, we thought this was amazing! Let me first say that I used flap meat just because that was what I had on hand. I doubled the sauce and marinated it for almost 20 hours. When I put the meat on the grill, I put the leftover marinade in a saucepan with a little cornstarch to thicken. Served the meat over sticky white rice, topped with the sauce and a little chopped green onion....perfection! This is going into regular dinner rotation for sure! Thanks Martha!

Cabbage Balushka or Cabbage and Noodles

Reviewed: May 28, 2012
My son gave this 5 stars...and he almost never does that! I should start by saying that I don't know if I should even review this recipe because I did not stay true to it as written (we gave it 4 stars as written but did make some changes this 2nd time through). I started by browning a pound of diced bacon and when it was crisp, removed it and then sauteed the cabbage and onion together slowly in the bacon fat until nice and carmelized. The I added the bacon back in plus 3 cloves of minced garlic. Then added in cooked homemade noodles. It was sooo good. Thanks rlecook!!

Basic Baked Spaghetti

Reviewed: Oct. 4, 2012
We liked it. Son said it had more flavor than regular spaghetti. The cheese was a nice addition...I used both mozzarella and cheddar. Will definitely make again.

Thai Cucumber Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 25, 2012
The dressing is amazing!! I don't really care for cucumbers all that much but my friend brought some over for me so I decided to give this a try. I absolutely fell in love with the dressing...taste just like a dressing from one of my fave restaurants. Now I skip the cucumbers and use it on my salads!! So much flavor! Yummy!

Easy Chocolate Bundt Cake Glaze

Reviewed: Mar. 23, 2012
This was easy and fabulous! I wanted a mint flavored glaze so I used white chocolate chips and 1 tsp peppermint extract plus 6-8 drops of green food coloring. I took this to work for a co-workers birthday and everyone raved about it. I can't wait to try the chocolate version as the recipe is written! This was super easy to make and also easy to work with!

Oven-Roasted Asparagus

Reviewed: Apr. 8, 2013
The flavor was good but found it to be a bit oily. Will definitely make again with less olive oil. Thanks for a great way to enjoy asparagus!

Slow Cooker Carnitas

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2012
This was ok. I did add two small peppers because I like the heat but overall this recipe was kind of bland as written. I used the carnitas mostly in burritos with some mexican rice and shredded cheese but by itself, it was just plain shredded pork. We did use some to make pulled pork sandwiches and that was good, mostly due to the bbq sauce we drizzled over the meat. I may try this again with more seasoning.

Fried Yellow Squash

Reviewed: Jul. 18, 2012
I made this for my son and I, just as written, and we thought it was really good. It was our first time trying yellow squash and I think we both agree that we'll be eating it again. I did salt the squash after it was fried. Very tasty!

Grampa's Coriander Turkey Sausage

Reviewed: Apr. 26, 2012
This is wonderful sausage....tons of flavor!!! Followed the recipe exactly and I will be for many years to come. I love that it's made with turkey so not quite as fattening but still gives the satisfaction of eating sausage! Thanks for posting.
