Sage-Rubbed Roasted Turkey

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2010
This recipe made me a Christmas hero. It was delicious and looked beautiful too. I squeezed some bacon grease off of the paper towel from breakfast and rubbed that on the turkey and also added thyme to the spice rub.

Stewed Tomatoes with Dumplings

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2010
These are awesome. I left out the dumplings and used crumbled saltines instead.

Salsa II

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2009
This is as good as our local Mexican place. The only 2 things I changed (other than scaling down to 24 servings since I don't can) was that I used fresh garlic (Alton Brown said garlic powder cannot develop in the presence of acid?) and I put in some honey because it was bitter (perhaps because I didn't seed the jalapenos?). Absolutely top notch.

German Red Cabbage

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2008
This is something that I had never eaten, much less cooked, but I was looking for a veggie that could simmer on the stove while I cooked the rest of Christmas dinner and I loooove vinegar, so I went with this. I was amazed that the cabbage didn't get all wilty after all that simmering and the tart flavor was nice. It was also really pretty and a nice balance to all the heavy stuff. The guests liked it too.

Sweet Restaurant Slaw

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2008
Awesome. I used shredded red cabbage because my coleslaw mix had gone bad, and it tasted just as good, with the added benefit that it was so much prettier! I cut the sugar in half, but I stuck with the Miracle Whip because I think t is so much more flavorful than mayo. Also wanted to add that I usually make the KFC knockoff coleslaw using buttermilk, but this is much better because it diesn't get all watery in the fridge.

Sour Cream Refrigerator Mashed Potatoes

Reviewed: Dec. 2, 2008
These were way too heavy. They do not come close to regular mashed potatoes.

Pork Tenderloin in Bourbon

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2008
This is the best pork tenderloin recipe. My picky husband deemed it "restaurant quality". Like some others, I reserved the marinade, boiled it, and thickened it with Wondra flour. Then I poured it over the medallions. Can't wait to impress company with it.

Dr. Pepper Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2008
This was my first attempt at baking a cake from scratch and it was goooood. I used Denton Dr. Pepper, and instead of marshmallows, I used chocolate chips. I also used a chocolate icing instead of the peanut butter. I will make again. (And again!)

Johnny's Biscuits

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2008
This is definitely worth 5+ stars in my opinion. I made these once with buttermilk and once with faux buttermilk (vinegar and milk) and they turned out delicious both times. I was born in WV, so I am a born biscuit lover. If you have ever had a Tudor's Biscuit World Biscuit (and if you have not and there is one near you, SHAME on you!), these are very close.

Balsamic Marinated Chicken Breasts

Reviewed: Jun. 22, 2008
I used fresh garlic and put bread crumbs on the chicken before baking. (Baked on a cooling rack to keep the bread crumbs from getting soggy on the bottom.) Otherwise, I was faithful to the recipe, and my husband and I were both in agreement that the chicken was very moist and flavorful.

Burger or Hot Dog Buns

Reviewed: Jun. 13, 2008
Bless you! This is the 4th bun recipe I have tried, and they have never turned out for me until now! I brushed with egg white and sprinkle with sesame seeds before they went in the oven and they looked/tasted totally professional!

Bread Machine Pizza Dough

Reviewed: Jun. 9, 2008
The beer gives a good flavor to the crust, but it is so sticky it is super difficult to work with. I spread it in my pizza pan like icing. It stuck to my hands and got all over everything. Maybe because it was so humid today, but my husband loved it so much, I will make again.

Bud's Potato Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 8, 2008
I was starting to get frustrated with potato salad recipes-- they were all turning out bland for me, and being the only person who can cook in my family, I gotta come through at barbecues. This totally did the trick. I marinated for three hours, used Miracle Whip instead of regular mayo (those of you who are wary about the sweetness wouldn't be advised to do this, I guess, but I think mayo is so bland in salads), and celery salt to taste instead of salt and celery seed. It was very good the first day and restaurant quality day two. Thanks for getting me out of my potato salad slump!

Big Al's K.C. Bar-B-Q Sauce

Reviewed: May 17, 2008
It was a little sweet. I had halved the recipe, so I added some of the tomato sauce I ahd left in the can and a clove of fresh garlic. Was tasty in the saucepan, but AMAZING once it caramelized on the pork ribs on the grill. Thanks for the awesome recipe.

Cola Burgers

Reviewed: May 10, 2008
My husband and I rarely agree on the number of stars a recipe should receive - but we did this time. These were so moist, I did not need to put anything on them but American cheese. I used buffalo instead of beef and left out the parm cheese because that just sounded gross to me. I will never not use this recipe!

Sun-Dried Tomato Pesto

Reviewed: Apr. 19, 2008
I was not too sure how this one would go over because I tasted it in the food processor and it seemed a little heavy on the balsamic flavor. However, once I tossed it with the pasta (you don't need nearly as much as if you were using say meat sauce),...heavenly. Maybe even the best pasta dish I have eaten in or out of a restaurant! The only subs I made were that I used asiago instead of parmesan because mine had gone bad and I added some of that seasoning stuff that you are supposed to mix with olive oil and dip bread in because I add that to everything. My meat loving husband was also a fan.
