Hamburger Buns

Reviewed: Aug. 24, 2009
Well, if I was an experienced bread maker, maybe these would have turned out better. As it is they don't look too good, and I'm not sure they're going to taste good. Instructions are too vague. I wasn't sure whether to knead the dough or not, or whether to grease my pan. (I kneaded a little and thoroughly greased my pan.) Should I have let them rise some more while the oven preheated (I didn't). How do I get them brownde on top. I just hope they taste better than they look.

Tasty BBQ Corn on the Cob

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2010
Yummy! I ended up melting the butter on the stove (I'm a procrastinator and didn't get the butter out to soften early enough) and stirring in all the spices then brushing on the corn with a basting brush. Really penetrates the corn that way. Love it!

Creamy Cheesy Scrambled Eggs with Basil

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2011
Yummy! Something new and different for breakfast, but doesn't take any longer than regular scrambled eggs. Used cheddar cheese because that's what I had. Can't wait to try again and maybe add some Red Bell Peppers.

Homemade Flour Tortillas

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2011
These taste great, but I'm still struggling with them shrinking back on themselves. Going to study the tips other cooks have suggested, and try again.

High-Altitude Challah

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2012
Love this bread, family loves it! Made 4 loaves this weekend, kept one at home, and took 3 to a church potluck. There's not even one slice left. Just a note... I use the leftover egg whites from the separated eggs to brush on the loaf before baking, works great.

Hasselback Potatoes

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2012
Okay, even my 5 year old son who hates potatoes liked these! I will probably use more butter cheese and seasonings next time, but still very good!

Simple White Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2012
Okay, lesson one, read the entire recipe before starting! I was altering this recipe to make a single garlic herb loaf (I just added garlic powder and Italian seasonings). It wasn't till I saw 1 tablespoon of salt that I began to suspect this might be a rather large recipe... then I saw 8 cups of flour! I ended up with two very large loaves of garlic herb bread to go with my left-over spaghetti! Anyway since then I have cut the recipe in half, and made it several times. Last time I made it into hoagie type rolls for homemade french dips. Today is going to be small dinner rolls for Thanksgiving. Overall I love this recipe, and it has become my base recipe for various types of bread.

Southwestern Turkey Soup

Reviewed: May 2, 2013
Tried this last night, and it was pretty good. Had to do some improvising. I used chicken broth, because that's what was on hand, then diced up a fresh tomato instead of whole canned tomatoes. Didn't have cilantro or avocado, and eyeballed the spices since I had a lot of turkey to use, and had to increase the broth by about half again the amount. Then I added some noodles after getting a bit too much cayenne. Anyway, it made an incredibly tough tasteless turkey breast edible. In our house it may be known as "Grilled Turkey Disaster Salvage Soup." :-) Point is that even with all my substitutions, alterations, and left out ingredients it was still tasty. Kids ate all of theirs, and DH and I each ate two helpings.

Italian Dressing Mix

Pretty good, I'm going to try red wine vinegar and olive oil next time, and ease up on the salt.

Milk Vinegar Salad Dressing

Reviewed: Oct. 20, 2014
My Grandma used to make something like this for coleslaw when I was just a girl, and I have never liked anyone else's coleslaw. She used milk and actual sugar though, I just couldn't remember measurements. I used your measurements and her ingredients, and it's just like I remember. Thank you so much!

Slow Cooker Apple-Scented Venison Roast

Reviewed: Jan. 20, 2015
We just moved to an area where wild game is plentiful, and a friend gave us a couple of venison roasts. I really didn't know what to do with them, but I found this recipe. Tried it yesterday and it was extraordinarily tender! Even my finicky seven year old liked it. Will definitely try it again but will add more salt, and read the other reviews for expert advice. Thanks!
