Old Fashioned Mac and Cheese

Reviewed: Mar. 25, 2013
I made this recipe twice over the weekend for two different events and got great compliments both times. I did not add onion due to personal preference and I melted the cheese into the white sauce because it wasn't all already shredded, but other than that followed the recipe exactly. I saw one review that said that she mixed it together and served it from the stove top. I tried it before baking it and thought it tasted okay, but after baking it was delicious. I've never made macaroni and cheese with processed cheese because it doesn't really appeal to me but it does make a difference. This is a basic macaroni and cheese recipe. I'll probably experiment with other cheese combinations to see what I can create. I love feta and think a little might give it the extra kick I really love.

Dad's Leftover Turkey Pot Pie

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2011
I enjoyed this pot pie. I've tried other recipes in the past and they're always too runny. I followed the recipe for the "gravy" exactly and will use less pepper next time (personal taste). I did add the veggies that my family liked, including potato. Overall a good recipe.

Impossible Pumpkin Pie II

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2010
I took a bite of this while it was warm and thought I had made a huge mistake. (I had a big can of pumpkin so I doubled the recipe.) I put it in the refrigerator over night and it was delicious! It is just like pumpkin pie but without the crust. My husband cannot have too many carbs so this recipe was great!

Easy and delicious! Lower carb foods aren't usually this good.

Chinese Chicken Salad III

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2010
We loved this. I made the sauce as written but might use less peanut butter next time. We used rotisserie chicken and chow mein noodles instead of won tons and it was super quick and delicious. We'll definitely be making this again.

Mom's Zucchini Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2010
Very good! I made it exactly as instructed. It took a lot longer for mine to bake but I don't know if that's due to my oven or other factors. Delicious warm or cold.

Sweet Dinner Rolls

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2010
I do not have a bread machine so I followed some of the recommendations in the reviews and made the dough in my stand mixer. I realized afterward that one of the suggestions included adding the butter into the warm milk/sugar mixture. It wasn't until it was all mixed that I realized the butter was supposed to go on the rolled out dough. I went ahead and buttered it before baking anyway. The rolls turned out delicious despite my mistake (I love butter anyway!). I brushed melted butter on the top after taking them out of the oven. They melt in your mouth and the texture was perfect! I did use bread flour instead of all purpose flour because I like the texture better for bread. *I read a review that said it needed more flour. The dough was sticky coming out of the mixer but I let it rise in a bowl covered in olive oil and it turned out perfect and easy to handle. I would not recommend adding more flour (other than to roll it in). Just be patient with it.

Bada Bing Pork Chops

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2010
I was missing some of the ingredients so I made some substitutions but I don't think they changed the flavor much. I didn't have a full 1/2 cup of applesauce so I used half applesauce and 1/2 baby food prunes (it's what I had on hand!). I used red pepper flakes instead of hot pepper sauce. It is really hot out so we ended up cooking inside instead of on the grill. These were delicious and juicy. They had a sweet/sour/spicy flavor. You couldn't really pick out any one flavor over another - they all blended well. We'll probably try this marinade on chicken next. We saved some of the marinade mix out before adding the meat and added a little to green beans when we served them. It was a nice addition.

Rhubarb Strawberry Crunch

Reviewed: Jun. 5, 2010
This recipe is great. I made it as written, except I added more fruit. It does make a lot of crunch topping as another reviewer said but I like it that way. I did not feel it needed anything else. It turned out perfect as written. It is also very sweet but again, I prefer it that way. Very easy. I will definitely make this again.

Hot Artichoke and Spinach Dip II

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2008
I used light sour cream because I do not like mayo and I also added more cheese but this was delicious. The dip was gone before all of the guests arrived. I'll have to at least double it next time. I'll use this recipe for my spinach artichoke dip from now on.

Pumpkin Cheese Bread I

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2011
This is a very good pumpkin bread with a subtle flavor. I followed the recipe exactly - except I didn't have any cloves. Instead I used 1 tsp. pumpkin pie spice and then added an extra 1/2 tsp. cinnamon. My husband thought it would be good to spread cream cheese on it as well but I had used it all in the bread. We'll have to try that the next time I make it.

Super Grilled Salmon

Reviewed: Jun. 10, 2008
I found this recipe and my husband made it. We followed the recipe exactly. He really liked it because it was good and easy. I do not care for fish as much as he does and I just thought it was okay. The flavor was very similar to teriyaki. We used frozen salmon and my husband said next time he'll use fresh to make it even better.

Porcupines

Reviewed: Jun. 9, 2008
I have never made meatballs before. I've only ever had them from the store. These were great and very easy. I changed the recipe just a bit... I used brown minute rice, added 1/4 cup of egg beaters, and used cream of mushroom soup instead of tomato sauce. They turned out great. We wished there were more leftovers. I'll never buy meatballs from the store again!

Buttermilk Salad

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2011
This is delicious. I only had one 3-ounce box of peach jello so I added a 3-ounce box of raspberry as well. I only had vanilla flavored cool whip on hand but it worked fine. I added a can of drained mandarin oranges as well. This was great!

Lana's Sweet and Sour Meatballs

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2011
I only used the sweet and sour sauce portion of this recipe. It was amazing! I used red pepper instead of green due to personal preference. My husband was disappointed it was gone and wondered if we had the ingredients to make it again the next night. We're using this recipe for a party coming up. This was delicious and so easy!

I've made a lot of apple pies but this was the best by far! This is the only recipe I will ever use again! I used macintosh apples and added cinnamon but followed the recipe exactly other than that. Delicious!

Ground Beef N Rice Pie

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2008
This recipe wasn't bad. I browned the ground beef before baking as other people suggested. It was not hot in the middle after baking as suggested so I would go a little longer next time. This is kind of a Spanish rice meets meatloaf type flavor. I'll make this again.

Fresh Pineapple Upside Down Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2010
I knew better than to bake the cake at 400 degrees but the first time I try a recipe I like to follow the directions exactly so I can give it a fair shot. The top edges of the cake (what became the bottom edges) were pretty dark after 30 minutes. I put in a toothpick and it seemed to come out clean. When I cut into the cake at a party later, the uncooked cake batter came oozing out of the middle. I will try this recipe again but will bake at 350 degrees and omit the pineapple juice from the brown sugar/butter mixture in the bottom of the pan. I think all that liquid contributed to raw middle.

Baked Apples

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2010
I used this recipe for just one apple. I didn't want to heat the oven for just one so I microwaved it for 5 minutes. It was delicious. I did add water to the bottom of the bowl so it wouldn't dry out too much.
