It was a blustery day, and I had most of the ingredients for this soup around the house, so I thought I'd give it a try. I am so glad I did! I did make a few changes: I didn't remove the bacon from the pot after it was crisped, I just added the onion and garlic right in, and I think I used more of that then was asked for. Like other reviewers, I increased the flour to 1/4 cup, and will probably use more next time. I left the skins on the potatoes, diced and roasted them before adding them to the soup. Since I had fresh basil, I chopped about 3 Tbsps, and added it with the heavy cream I had (instead of half and half). I also left out the hot sauce, thinking it could be added as needed to individual bowls. Everyone agreed that the flavor of this soup was wonderful! The only problem I had was that I should have doubled it for 4 people! Thank you so much for this recipe.
