Best Brownies

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2014
I'm not a frosted brownie kind of girl, but other than omitting that, and doubling the recipe, I stayed true. Yum! It wasn't the cracked top, that you would get from a boxed brownie, but the "cake looking" brownie was nothing but perfect. It may have looked like cake from the top, but that's where it stopped. Adding this to my recipe box!

Banana Nut Bread II

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2013
Fantastic! I didn't have margarine, so had to substitute butter, but otherwise I added a teaspoon of vanilla and some cinnamon and nutmeg (someone gave me a ton and I had to use it up). No problem cooking, came out toothpick perfect each time I made it. I'll be buying extra bananas just to make this!

Creamy Strawberry Crepes

Reviewed: Apr. 28, 2011
I really liked this but was glad that I looked at other reviews before I made it. I made sure that I added the lemon juice, since it helps even out the sweetness. I also started with 3/4 cup of powdered sugar. That was just the right amount for my group. Had a lot of the cream cheese mix left over...thinking of maybe a Graham cracker crust with more strawberries on top. Very close to a no bake cheesecake flavor. Yum!

Beefy Cheesy Pasta

Reviewed: Aug. 24, 2010
Fast, easy, and surprisingly good. I needed more so I added more meat, more pasta, and a little onion/garlic powder as suggested. I'll admit that I added a little cheddar to make it a little more adult. Was good before the cheddar, so overall a good meal.

Slow Cooker Carnitas

Reviewed: May 1, 2010
I loved this recipe- with a few review changes. I kept the chicken stock the same, but I doubled all the spices I had (sorry, but I removed the cinnamon all together). I didn't have the coriander, but it was great how it was...just enough salt. I combined it with a homemade hamburger bun recipe, with the option of BBQ sauce. Yum!

Slow-Cooker Chicken Tortilla Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2009
Incredible! I made three small changes...sorry. Added black beans, used one 32 oz. box of chicken stock instead of can of chicken broth, and cheated with tortilla chips instead of home made. My toppings included choice of sour cream, avocado, chopped cilantro, cheddar cheese and tortilla chips. Whole family loved it.

Simple Beef Stroganoff

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2009
I agree with others when they said this was a good base. Someone else pretty much nailed a great try (in the reviews). I browned beef with onions, drained then added 1 tsp garlic powder, 1 tbsp worcestershire sauce, cream of mushroom soup, pepper, 1 tsp beef bouillon, 1 cup sour cream, and enough milk to get desired thickness. Picky husband , and kids, loved it! Thank you!

Cinnamon Raisin Bread I

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2009
I cut the recipe in half and used the suggestion of starting with 30 minute cook time. The other suggestions to add a little cinnamon to dough, brown sugar instead of white, and buttering the top before baking gave me a golden brown, flaky piece of heaven. Too much cinnamon in the dough can make it not raise enough, so use caution! Thank you so much! P.s. I started it all in the bread maker and used caution with additional flour when I saw the gooey mess.

Carnitas Filling

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2007
I made this early in the day, but not early enough for my slow cooker. I added a little red pepper flake to it to give it a lil warmth, but could have put a little more. My husband made it home before I did and ate it like a soup (going back not only for seconds but thirds) and the rest of us ate it in tacos. Very tasty with a little homemade guacamole!

Beef and Biscuit

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2007
With sick ones in the house I didn't have a lot of energy for cooking or for running to the store. I had all of the ingredients in the house, but ended up subbing the chili powder and tomato sauce for salsa (I don't like chili powder's after taste). I took the advice of another reviewer and added chili beans to the mix as well. With the addition of the chili beans (1 15 oz can)I had to bump the pan to an 8x8 deep dish. My picky eater ate it that night and the next for left overs, and my husband said he could have it again. It was the right spice for that day, but I might kick it up a touch with a heavier salsa next time. Thanks for the fast recipe!

Last Minute Chicken Dinner

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2005
I used fresh brocoli, instead of frozen mix, and garlic salt instead of garlic powder. With a little extra salt and pepper it was a good meal. Kids even ate it, which is saying a lot.

Vintage Lemonade

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2004
I kept the recipe as is, then after it was all done I taste tested with more lemons and water ready to go. Turned out great! Ended up using 2 more lemons and a cup more water, but it was to our taste. Advice on not stirring the sugar and peel mixture worked great. Just pour the sugar and leave it alone.

Vanilla - Chocolate Powdered Sugar Frosting

Reviewed: Sep. 4, 2004
Very easy to make. No problem with the consistency, but others might have had a problem if the butter was melted or didn't mix long enough. Mom's tip is to add a touch of salt to help even out the sweetness. Turned out great.

Simple Savory Pork Roast

Reviewed: Aug. 10, 2004
I did this in my crockpot, and it was incredibly moist. If I was to do it again I would do sprigs of rosemary and reduce the salt. I had to add water, since my roast was frozen, so I added all of the spices directly to the pot and basted often. Ended up cutting back on the salt taste by serving it over rice. Pretty good, even with my mistakes.

Beef Stew VI

Reviewed: Apr. 5, 2001
Overall a good stew. The rosemary was a nice change, but it still needed something else to give it a little more flavor.
