Stir Fried Sesame Vegetables with Rice

Reviewed: Jun. 11, 2008
I made some changes on ingredients, since I wanted to use up vegetables I had in my fridge. I used a bunch of broccoli instead of asparagus and a few small green peppers instead of a large red pepper, then added half of a red onion. I omitted peanut oil and mushrooms because I didn't have in hands. I served vegetables over rice and it tasted great.

Fried Corn with Bacon

Reviewed: Jun. 10, 2008
A quick and easy recipe. I used sliced ham instead of bacons because that was the only thing I had in my fridge.

Sweet Potato Potato Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 10, 2008
Delicious. There is one thing I should've done. I should've soaked chopped onions in water or chopped them smaller pieces before mixing them in the potato mixture. We tasted the onion a bit too strong in the salad.

Suzanne's Spinach Quiche

Reviewed: Jun. 9, 2008
I used cooked fresh spinach and shredded carrots insted of mushrooms. I drained the spinach and carrots as much as possible. The result came to the fluffy and moist quiche. For using yogurt, it tasted light. I liked it personally though my family said it was OK. Tha's why I give 4 stars.

Tomato-Cream Sauce for Pasta

Reviewed: Jun. 9, 2008
I give 4.5 stars. It tasted good, and my mother who is not fond of any kinds of cream sauced dish liked this pasta sauce. I followed the recipe precisely. It tasted good. However, I like the sauce a little creamer, so I'd like to puree a cup of the sauce next time I make it.

Simple White Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 9, 2008
I give 4.5 stars. It tasted like regular white cakes. Nothing special. I made this for my mother's birthday; had the cake with whipped cream and strawberry sauce. My family liked the cake a lot though I still thought it was plain. I shifted the flour mixture and took a longer time for beating the butter mixture. (Beat until it became like yellow whipped cream.) This makes the cake moist and fluffy.

Tofu Chocolate Pudding

Reviewed: Jun. 9, 2008
It was an interesting and a very healthy recipe, but it just tasted like tofu and chocolate. The taste of the tofu was too strong for me. Perhaps I can add more vanilla extract and chocolate chips in order to vanish the tofu flavour. However, they tasted better next day. the less tofu flavour I tasted and the more chocolate flavour I got.

Amber's Peanut Butter

Reviewed: Jun. 7, 2008
I live in Japan, and we cannot buy crunchy penut butter here. There are only skippy kinds of peanut butter. (very creamy and very sweet ones) They are OK, but they are too sweet for me. I followed the recipe exactly. It tasted natual and not sweet at all. Perhaps I could add one more tbs of honey. A good thing about this recipe is you can make the peanut butter in any way you like. :D

Lime Chicken Picante

Reviewed: May 30, 2008
All of my family loved the dish. Even my old Japanese grandmother who is not fond of any kinds of spicy foods liked the chicken. I took some advises and only put 1tsp of Dijion mastard. Add more salsa and used only 3 chicken brests. They were delicious! Thank you.

Tortillas II

Reviewed: May 29, 2008
Since I live in the country side in Japan, it is hard to get tortillas. I have to drive more than an hour to get them. So I decided to make them myself. I took some advises here: used 3 tbs of shortening and let them rest more than an hour. The result came very good. it was easy to roll the dough. Didn't stick to hands and a rolling stick at all, though I used enough flour when I rolled them. I thought they tasted better than tortillas from shops. However, the tortillas became hard a minute later I finished baking...

Black Bean Chili

Reviewed: May 29, 2008
It was delicious and very healthy. I didn't change the recipe except that I soaked and cooked black beans. Next time I will have to puree a cup of the chili. Otherwise, it is not creamy enough. I had the chili with a tortilla, and it was really good.

Boiled Bagels

Reviewed: May 26, 2008
This was my first attempt to make begels, and I would say it was not difficult to make. However, mines turned out very ugly. The mistake I made was re-forming bagels after they had risen. The dough had risen beautifully but was very sticky. This resulted in the dough sticking to a spatula and a pan. I couldn't transfer begels from the pan into the boiling water. That's why I re-formed begels... They also glued to greased cooking sheets when I baked. Perhaps I didn't grease enough on cooking sheets.... though I don't know why my dough became so sticky. (I followed the recipe precisely.) I will definitetely try this recipe again and see how it goes. Anyway, I give 4 stars because the taste and texture were really good. And could anyone help me how to make less sticky dough!??

Janet's Rich Banana Bread

Reviewed: May 22, 2008
It was my first time to make a banana bread, and it tasted very good. I followed the recipe quiet well, though I mashed bananas instead of slicing them. It was not easy to mix sour cream in the butter, since my sour cream was hard. Next time I make this bread I try to mix bananas and sour cream first, then mix the sour cream mixture with the butter.

Kiwifruit Muffins

Reviewed: May 22, 2008
Great recipe! My family loves the muffins. Every time I make them, they don't last more than 2 days. I usually use 3 kiwis and reduce sugar to 1/3 cup. They are sweet enough and nicely moistured.
