About this Cook
I'm half Yankee, half Hillbilly, so my tastes run for all the fattening comfort foods like biscuits and gravy, chowders, pies and the like. Just about everything tastes great fried in bacon grease!
My favorite things to cook
Pot roast, beef & gravy over rice, nachos, cake and biscuits. Some times I don't like to cook or bake, but when I long for something particular, nothing else but my own will satisfy my longing.
My favorite family cooking traditions
It just doesn't seem like Christmas without some pies, cookies and other sweet treats like peanut brittle, caramel corn and fudge.
My cooking triumphs
I think anything that tastes good is a triumph.
My cooking tragedies
A fudge cake that turned out horrible because the sugar I used was from sugar beets, not sugar from sugar canes, so the whole thing stayed liquidy and inedible! Now, it would be called molten lava cake! LOL

Uncooked Banana Pudding
LOVED IT!!! My box of pudding from Kroger was slightly bigger but I made it exactly as the recipe stated otherwise. Maybe it was the size of the dish I used, but I couldn't use the whole box of vanilla wafers and I took the suggestion of another person and crumbled some to put on top. Hubby ate two huge portions in minutes and raved about it! No more waiting for pudding to cool down for me now, this is my new go-to recipe!

Kielbasa and Cabbage
I always try to make a recipe the way it directs before changing it. I thought this was very tasty but I would definitely make some slight changes. First, I would cut the sausage length wise and then into smaller chunks. Second, I'd saute the sausage first, then add the liquid, seasonings, and cabbage strips. Third, instead of wedges, I quarter it, then slice them into 1/2" strips to make it easier to wilt and eat. Fourth, will definitely decrease the caraway by about 1/2. I love caraway but that was just too much for me and way more than hubby cared for. Fifth, change the water to apple cider, apple juice or even beer. Sixth, add a dollop of butter at the end, just before serving and serve with a crusty bread.
