White Texas Sheet Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 13, 2011
"It was a rainy day, too wet to go outside. Mommy said 'Let's make cupcakes. What colour would you like?'. 'Pink!' I said. 'Pink! Pink! Pink!'". Needless to say it was a rainy day, too wet to go outside and after reading one of my little girl's favourite books, Mommy had to consult AR to find a recipe for cupcakes that could be made pink. Pink! Pink! Pink! ;)

Creamy Hot Cocoa

Reviewed: Jul. 16, 2012
I combine the cocoa, sugar and salt, store it in an air tight container and use it as ready serve cocoa drink powder. I warm 1 cup of milk add a heaping dessert spoon of the cocoa mix for my kids every morning. If you are using cold milk, pour a teeny bit of milk into the bottom of the glass, add the powder and stir until it makes a syrup, then add the rest of your milk or else the cocoa powder won't mix in.

Austrian Peach Cookie

Reviewed: Mar. 9, 2011
My Brother in Law had the odd request of Austrian Peach Cookies for his birthday dessert which I had never made, seen or tasted before. Since AR had two versions of this recipe with similar doughs, but vastly different fillings, I decided to make both. This recipe was our favorite by far. What made the filling so special was the instant tea powder. I used iced tea powder (in the US, what we Canadians call 'iced tea' you refer to as 'sweet tea'). I photo journalled my process of making the cookies in hopes that they may help out anyone who wants to try this recipe, but might be intimidated by it :)

Acorn Squash Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2010
Yum! Instead of puree-ing the soup in batches in my blender, I used my little hand blender/emulsifier and did it all right in the cooking pot :)

Italian Stewed Tomatoes

Reviewed: Oct. 7, 2008
I made a half recipe of these and used them in the "Best Marinara Sauce Yet" (from this site). Very Yummy! UPDATE: I canned this recipe (the whole recipe, not half) in 500mL (16oz) jars and yielded 6 cans. I filled the jars with the tomatoes and veggies first, then topped it up with the liquid until the volume was level with the bottom thread of the jar. I processed them in a boiling water bath for 1 hour. When I opened my first can about 6 weeks later it was EVEN BETTER than when I made it fresh. The flavour was incredible! So I'm changing my review from 4 stars to 5 stars and I highly reccommend that you can this recipe!

Best Bread Machine Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2009
I have been making all of my family's bread using this recipe for about a year now with fool-proof, fantastic results. I recently switched from whole wheat to whole GRAIN flour and for the first time, this recipe failed me. My bread would rise to a point, then it would seem to struggle under the weight or structure of the flour. I reached out to other allrecipe memebers for help via the buzz and Marie C. suggested I try VITAL WHEAT GLUTEN. The package said to add 1 TBSP of vital wheat gluten per cup of flour, so I reduced my flour by 3 TBSP and added the vital wheat gluten in it's place and... I GOT MY RISE BACK! All you have to do is check out my profile picture to see the difference it made. Thanks SHECOOKS for the awesome recipe, and thanks Marie C. and those fellow cooks who offer advice and help on the buzz for helping me get my rise back :)

Plum Blueberry Upside Down Cake

Reviewed: Sep. 19, 2010
This was my first time making an upside down cake and I was not disappointed! I had to run out and begrudgingly buy a new springform pan after reading KB's review, but it was definitely worth every penny! I did increase the butter and brown sugar topping by 50%, and I also added a heaping half tsp of cinnamon to the dry ingredients. It was so good that my husband and I skipped dinner and went straight to the cake :) UPDATE: I just made this yesterday for one of the desserts for a big dinner at my house. The previous time I had made this, I melted the butter for the bottom of the pan in the microwave and then added the sugar and whisked it together until it was creamy, then poured it into the pan. Last night I tried doing it as instructed by placing the butter and sugar in the pan and letting them melt together in the oven and it did not work at all!!! I had melted, oily butter and clumps of sugar. Luckily I had enough time to clean the pan and start over by melting the butter in the microwave and then whisking in the sugar or my dessert would have been an epic failure to an otherwise wonderful meal :)

Buttery Pan Rolls

Reviewed: Sep. 17, 2008
The best bun recipe that I have tried on allrecipes.com! My family is a little neurotic and will only eat the soft inner buns as opposed to the crusty outer buns... I know, we're weird. As opposed to throwing out more than half of my hard work I used one 9x13 greased baking pan, reduced the total number from 40 buns to 30, took six of the rolls of dough, rolled them out and lined the inner walls of the pan with them, then followed the rest of the instructions as written. The result: 24 nice, soft inner buns... and four crusty walls.
