About this Cook
I was born Jan. 8, 1942 in IL. I moved to IN in Dec. of 1952. First married in 1960. I have two sons and two daughters and 10 grandchildren. Divorced and remarried in the early 2000's. DH and I are both retired and mainly concentrate on quilting. We are involved with our church. I don't cook as much as I used to, due to developing fibromyalgia and being in pain a lot of days.
My favorite things to cook
I love to make homemade bread and yeast breads. An Amish bread recipe I got from here is my favorite. I love to do baking most of all. I also really like to prepare a big dinner for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
My favorite family cooking traditions
We always have mainly the same things on Thanksgiving and Christmas, mainly because we like them and it is what my mother made: turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, cornbread dressing, sweet potatoes, hot rolls, Kansas Corn Bake, pumpkin pie. Everyone one else fills in with the rest.
My cooking triumphs
I think it would be my first turkey I roasted for the first Thanksgiving I hosted in my late 20's or early 30's. Also a four tier cake I made for my parents' 40th anniversary.
My cooking tragedies
Oh, I am sure there are several, but the one that always stands out in my memory is a white chocolate cake I made for a family gathering. The thing was as flat as a pancake, but my, the icing was good!!

Italian Kale
I thought it was very good, as I had never cooked kale before. I added some sugar, more vinegar and cooked at least 10 minutes or longer. I am sorry that I never cooked it before I lost my husband, as he would have loved it. Thanks for the recipe.

Kentucky Butter Cake
This is a great buttery cake. I have been making it also for many years. In my opinion, it doesn't need any changes.

Better Than Sex Cake III
My recipe is very similar, except that when I cook the pineapple, I only use 1/4 c. sugar and 2 T. cornstarch to thicken it. I use 2 pkg. vanilla instant pudding, 3 c. milk and 1 8 oz. pkg. cream cheese. I also do not use bananas or coconut. When I used to take this to work for a retirement party, it was the first one to be gone. The men would be mad at me if I didn't make it.
