Tha's me - Chef Suzy
About this Cook
I am the wife of one big Texan and the mother of one gorgeous daughter and two beautiful four legged furry boys. Second only to my love of cooking is my love of music. Teaching piano and voice brings me great joy, but hearing "ooos" and "aaaahs" after a good meal makes me swoon!
My favorite things to cook
Cooking for friends and family is my favorite. I love to host parties - so appetizers are kind of my specialty. Although my very favorite thing to cook is cupcakes - only because they are also my favorite thing to eat!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My daughter and I spend a lot of time in the kitchen together, and she likes to make cookies - so I'd say good old fashioned chocolate chip cookies are the biggest tradition in our house. All of our family lives within five or ten miles, so family barbeques by the pool or at the lake are a tradition - and it wouldn't be a family get together or holiday if I didn't bring my macaroni and cheese. It's the Luby's recipe with a twist or two of my own - but the kids love it, Uncle Brian too!
My cooking triumphs
My biggest cooking triumph is Suzy's Texican Burger, which won second place in the Good Morning America Emeril's Best Burger in America contest in August of 2007. My friends always request my lasagna or my quiche, so I consider those triumphs too! ha!
My cooking tragedies
Before my daughter was born when we were newly married and I was less experienced with the art of experimenting in the kitchen, I made two infamously awful dishes - just ask my poor husband who paid of the take out later! First - chicken breasts that basically boiled in soup in the oven - ugh - and an Asian meatloaf - double ugh.

Alabama Fire Crackers
At my house, we call these "Cracker Crack" because they are so addictive and give you a foodie high! Yum!

Grilled Rosemary Pork Chops
Quick, Easy, Delicious! I used thinner boneless center chops and grilled them inside on the cast iron gas range top grill (care of Bobby Flay). Even the sometimes picky princess (aka our 13 year old daughter) loved them.
