Easy Granola Bars

Reviewed: Sep. 5, 2010
I would give this a zero if I could. The sweetened condensed milk is the only saving grace of this recipe. First off, quick oats are not the best option. You would be much better off toasting slow oats and allowing them to cool before applying them in the recipe. Second, these do need to be packed rather firmly in order for them to hold well and the end result is a very dense bar. This recipe needs something to lighten the mixture considerably. Puffed rice would work or as I had mentioned, toasting the slow oats would work as well. Also, this recipe needs at least a half teaspoon of salt to balance the sweetness. Vanilla helps too. These were just dense and raw tasting, and ultimately unpleasant. I have NO idea how it has been rated so high thus far.

Shepherd's Pie VI

Reviewed: May 31, 2010
This an excellent base recipe and the cheddar cheese is a MUST (it browns so nicely in the oven). However, this recipe is missing vital compenents. Worcestercire sauce is a big one...I've never seen it NOT used in a shepherds pie recipe. About a tablespoon or so for this recipe would do nicely. I also added a small amount of garlic to round out the flavour of the beef, about a clove or two for the recipe is sufficiant. I also like to add green peas for a splash of color (even though they are not traditional).

Triple Berry Crisp

Reviewed: Apr. 14, 2010
I would've given 5 starts because this turned out GREAT! I gave 4 because I added another cup or two of berries since I had so many lying around that needed to be used. Without the addition of these extra berries, I think the crust to berry ratio would've been to high. With the extra cup or so of berries, this recipe was just right. I did cut down the butter just a smidge and used about a cup, omitting the other half. The bottom crust was lovely, soft and chewy while the top crust was crisp and crunchy. All in all, aa real keepr! Just up the berries a bit and its a HIT!

Sunday Dinner Rolls

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2009
I used my bread macine for the dough and then followed the rising instructions as posted. I substituted water for milk and oil fro butter and the result was AM-A-ZING! Buttery, soft and very moist! I will use this as my standard bun recipe from now on!

Dash's Donair

Reviewed: May 2, 2009
This is really good! WOW! I doubled up the spices in my beef as I like a lot of flavour. The only suggestion I would make would be to change the preparation of the sauce. If you gradually add the vinegar, you wont get a nice thick sweet sauce. Instead, add the vinegar all at once and give it just a few whisks. Over stirring it will make it too thin.

Lentil Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2009
I loved this recipe! I omitted the vinegar and spinach and added just a pinch each chili powder and cumin to give it a lightly spiced flavour. I also sauteed the veggies in bacon fat for an extra little kick. All in all...this recipe was GREAT and it makes SO MUCH!

Ron's Bread Machine White

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2008
I used all bread flour for this recipe and had to add about an extra cup to make the proper consistency. It rose a little too high for my machine so next time I will bake in the oven. But, WOW! Everything looked, tasted and smelled divine! Awesome recipe!

Mango Salsa

Reviewed: Aug. 9, 2008
I loved this! SO GOOD! I served over blackened tilapia and man, was it ever gooooood! I used about a half a jalepeno pepper finely minced and I found it had a lot of heat, so next time I will crush the jalepeno and just add the juice to taste. Awesome! Will make again, again and AGAIN!

Corn Dogs

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2008
I followed this recipe to the letter and it didn't turn out for me. The batter slid off and around the dog making a sort of "batter bed" that the dog rested in. Perhaps my oil temp was too low. The taste was however, bang on! I think I just need to work on my technique!

Wow! How delicious and simple! I think the quantities of mayo and sr. cream are just right seeing as I had just under the specified amounts and I wish it was a little creamier! But 5 stars none the less! yummm!!!!

Hamburger Buns

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2008
I followed the recipe msmnts. The directions wern't very clear but I know how to bake a little! My buns looked great but they had very little flavour (just plain and bland) and they din't hold up well to the condiment and handling process. I will keep looking for a better recipe.

Baked Potato Salad II

Reviewed: Jun. 17, 2008
With a few modifications this recipe was INCREDIBLE! I chose to cube the potatoes and cook them almost completely before baking to reduce baking time. I used 3/4 sour cream and 1/4 mayo, and I added just a bit of steak spice to the dressing mix. Also, I added green onion instead of olives for color. Real cheese is a much nicer touch as well. Scrumptious!

Dark Carrot Raisin Muffins

Reviewed: Jun. 17, 2008
I loved 'em! I made them for my dad for Father's Day and he said they were just like his mom used to make! I also doubled the spices as suggested and they turned out simply fantastic! Maybe a little more raisins next time though. Oh, and I plumped my raisins in warm water before adding them as well and they were plump and remarkably juicy! Yum Yum Yum!
