About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
Mushrooms! I LOVE steak... and I like to grill, but I don't have the opportunity very often. Love baking... because it's usually quick and the results are SO SWEET!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Cookie Baking - Every year, a week or two before Christmas, all of my cousins from out of town and I get together and bake cookies. Afterward, we pile up in cars and race into town, go caroling at friends' homes, then to the zoo to enjoy the lights. Afterward, we make a run to our favorite pizza place and then back home to open a few gifts and sip margaritas! Thanksgiving and Christmas meals are also a VERY big thing for my family... and I have a BIG FAMILY, both maternally and paternally. Always a little scary, always a lot of fun!
My cooking triumphs completely homemade apple pie. I started with a basic recipe and changed it til it looks nothing like the original... except for the apple/sugar/cinnamon ingredients. It makes the whole house smell great and I usually have to bake two or three when eating with family!
My cooking tragedies
Setting the kitchen on fire - I learned this little stunt from my dad...who has set SOMETHING in the kitchen on fire at least once a year since I was eight. I still haven't had as many "accidents" as he has - and despite the fires, he's a great cook. Somehow, we've managed to keep the house standing and the fires have always been small enough to put out within minutes. Thankfully!

Honey Mustard Chicken
My cousins and I loved this dish when we tried it late one night. The apricot jam was hard to find, but worth the trouble. Served over a bed of rice, this chicken is amazing. Oddly enough, it even works well with mashed potatoes! It was perfect for our movie night and we plan to use it again and again.

Creamy Banana Bread
I tried this recipe when making my first banana bread. It was so easy to make. I love it (and I'm not even a big fan of bananas)! My parents really enjoyed it and my three-year-old couldn't get enough. I'll definitely be using this recipe again.
