Sarah's Chili Seasoning Mix

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2014
Oh man this had to have been the best pot of chili I have ever made and I'm pretty sure it had a lot to do with this mix :) For some reason the onion powder is listed twice in 2 different amounts. I'm just guessing a typo so I used 4 tsp. of onion powder and 2 tsp. of dried onion flakes. Also wondering how you are supposed to incorporate 2 whole bay leaves into a seasoning mix. I still threw one into my chili pot though. This is a fabulous mix and I will use it EVERY time a make chili!

Farmstand Ravioli with Zucchini

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2013
I loved this! Instead of canned tomatoes I used fresh which I sliced thick and got as much juice out into a side bowl to add later to the cooking pan to try and make up for the canned juice. I grilled the tomatoes along with a poblano pepper, cause I had it, along with the called for veggies. I used a mushroom cheese ravioli with this and when I added all the ingredients to the pan I added a bit of butter to make up for some of the missing canned juice. SO GOOD! Really enjoyed this one :)

Chef John's Sausage, Zucchini, and Potato Stew

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2013
I made a couple of small changes. I used dried thyme for fresh, used half yellow squash half zucchini, used a roma tomato chopped for the cherry, and added in a handful of chopped spinach. Not major changes IMO, and we thought it was delicious!

Crusty French Bread

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2013
Omg this is some good bread! Wish I would have made extra to freeze. The egg wash is a must if you want a nice golden top on the bread, otherwise it will be washed out looking. I used part of this to slice and make it garlic cheese rounds. LOVE this recipe!!

Open-Faced Broiled Roast Beef Sandwich

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2013
I never would have thought of bbq sauce going well with this type of sandwich, but it does! It's a nice sweetness to go with the sour/tang of the sauerkraut and mustard. I was going to make this open faced, but when I went to move the sandwich from the baking pan to a plate, I accidentally flipped it over and it was not pretty to look at anymore so I slapped the top bun on there. Anyway, very tasty and different!

Barbecued Chicken Quesadillas

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2013
very yummy! My kids and I enjoyed it and I especially loved them dipped in sour cream :) I was unsure if we would like the outcome of a quesadilla done in the oven, but it was nice and crispy! Thanks!

Kale and Quinoa Salad

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2013
I cut the quinoa down to 1/4 cup dry, and cut the oil down by half and left all the other ingredient's the same. Also substituted dried cherries for the currants. I thought it was okay, but did get tired of eating it pretty quick. Raw kale is so healthy so this is good for that :)

Orange Vinaigrette

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2013
Oh gosh this is my new favorite homemade dressing by far!! I've made this twice, the second time I cut the honey in half and still found it had a great sweetness to it. Next time I think I'll try without the honey all together, to see how that taste. Love it!

Roasted Garlic

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2013
Definitely cut the bottoms off of these to make squeezing out the garlic easy. This is so good and can be put on anything, from sandwiches to a steak! Yum!

Habanero Hot Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2013
I thought this was delicious! It does need plenty of salt but it goes great on so many things...I first used mine on a chicken wrap, then used it on some meatballs! I did all 5 habaneros and deseeded to of them and left 3 whole. Pretty spicy but we can handle it around here :)

Kale and Banana Smoothie

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2013
I liked this, but the more I drank it the harder it was to get down lol! I love kale so much, but it had a weird thickness and texture to this, which was the problem for me. I blended the heck out of it too to make sure there were no small pieces... Overall good though for a nice healthy shake!

Indian Eggplant - Bhurtha

While this was kinda good, I have definitley had better Indian eggplant recipe before. Where's the curry?? I served this over split whole wheat sandwich rounds instead of naan to save some calories.

Thai Orange Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2013
This was just okay. I used fresh oranges for the juice, but all the soy sauce and water really covered up the orange flavor. The recipe just needs a little sprucing up...

Moist Garlic Roasted Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 12, 2013
I thought this was simple and delicious!! I threw some chopped celery into the cavity with the lemons. I also opened up the parchment paper and removed the lemons from on top of the chicken the last 30 minutes. Made a gravy out of the juices left after cooking. SO GOOD!!

I used yellow squash instead of the zucchini, and a dash of a spicy seasoning mix to the veggies as they were cooking. This was delicious, a very nice lunch :)

Chef John's Lemon Bars

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2013
OMG these are so good! My husband said these were the best he's ever had, and they were super easy! I doubled the recipe, using 2 8x8 dishes and just tried to get as close to halving it between the 2 dishes as I could. Worked great! Thanks Chef John!
