Grilled Gyro Burgers

Reviewed: May 23, 2008
What the heck is so "gyro" about this? Not even close. Basic hamburger IMHO. Don't even bother.

Chicken Hariyali Tikka

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2006
We grilled this with skewers. It was very good. However, I can’t see adding cumin to it as the first reviewer did. My husband loved it, my children and I liked it a lot. To me it seemed to need some type of sauce to accompany it, though. Any suggestions Heeru? I will be making it again.

Firecracker Grilled Alaska Salmon

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2005
This is definately a 5 star recipe. We make this salmon ALOT. My family likes things spicy, and this passes with flying colors. We always use pepper flakes that we've made from our garden. I also use jarred grated ginger rather than the dried. This marinade tastes great on shrimp, too. I've never found it to overpower the salmon. Plus, I marinate it in a ziploc bag with all the air removed. It seems to marinate faster when I don't have 6 hours to do it. Whenever I ask my kids what kind of fish they want this weekend (when my hubby grills), they always answer: Firecracker salmon! You can't go wrong with this recipe. Thank you Christine!

Sarge's EZ Pulled Pork BBQ

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2005
There was nothing special about this. Definately use a different cut of pork. Pork butt roast just has WAY too much fat. You can't cut it out before cooking because the meat is too marbelized with it. The "great stock" you get for beef gravy is also way to greasy. I admit that it does fall off the bone and shreds easily, but the fat is just gross. Plus, when you put anything in a crock pot for 6-8 hours, of course it will be tender. I will not make this again. I'm giving it 2 stars rather than 1 because my children liked it. I though it was just plain boring.

Szechuan Beef

Reviewed: Sep. 17, 2004
I didn't have the water chestnuts, peanuts or broccoli, so I just used some carrots. I used beef base since I didn't have chicken base. Even without many of the ingredients, this was still very good. It wasn't that spicy and I even used some crushed dried Thai peppers (which are extremely hot) from our garden. After cooking the meat and tasting it (before adding the veggies) I added more dried peppers. That gave it some kick. I'd like to try it sometime with all the correct ingredients.

Ham and Fresh Basil Pinwheels

Reviewed: Jun. 10, 2002
I made these with deli smoked turkey. One thing to do is NOT substitute the fresh basil with dried. They are two TOTALLY different tastes. I chopped the basil and sprinkled that over instead of using whole leaves. You have to go by "looks" rather than a specific weight/amount. Also, I cut the sundried tomatoes into smaller pieces. This recipe was very good. You could do alot of different things to vary it and it would come out good too.

Grilled Indian Chicken

Reviewed: Oct. 1, 2001
This was a rather ordinary tasting barbecue chicken. Nothing extraordinary. After marinating for 3 hours I was expecting a real Indian flavor. The flavors did not really come out at all. That's what I get for going for an easier recipe than other Indian type recipes with more ingredients found on this site. Will not make this again.

Berry Rhubarb Pie

Reviewed: May 23, 2001
I've made this pie the last two years with my own fresh rhubarb. This is an EXCELLENT pie. Not being much of a baker, I bought pre-made crust in the freezer section of the grocery store. This is a keeper!

Black Bean Salad

Reviewed: Apr. 23, 2001
I made this for a pot-luck and it disappeared. It's a good thing that I didn't bring all of it because my husband devoured what I left at home! If you're concerned about the hotness, I found that the jalapenos didn't really make this dish very hot. I had an orange sweet pepper, so I used that instead of the green. It added a nice color combination. This is a very pretty salad and a keeper.
