I pretty much followed the recipe, except I added a bit of sour cream and I forgot to include the Worcestershire sauce. Its a great dip!

Smothered Green Beans

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2014
These green beans are the BEST I have EVER had. I followed one reviewers advice and cooked mine for a few minutes first. I also only used 5 strips of bacon (not that, that REALLY matters). Anyway, it was freaking AWESOME! I will definitely make these again.

Lentil Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2014
I like this recipe.... This is the first time I made lentil soup and I'm pretty pleased with the results. I read one review of a person who hated how individuals changed/added to the recipe, but that is one of the things I really enjoy about Allrecipes.com (the reviews that help make a recipe better). For me, I added more onions and garlic (because I'm a huge fan), sugar (because my mama always said to add a little sugar to a recipe with canned tomatoes due to the bitterness), cayenne pepper, red pepper flakes, and a little bit of Italians seasoning. I also added a strip of thick cut bacon for more flavor. I think the recipe really needed that extra boast. I didn't have any spinach so I used frozen kale instead. Lastly, and probably most importantly, I substituted chicken stock in place of the water. The soup is pretty good. I think I will add another bacon strip the next time I make it. Overall, I highly recommend this recipe...

Dumplings

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2013
I don't think these dumplings were "outstanding" or even "great". I give them okay. More than anything it lacks flavor. I think there needs to be more salt and sugar. I will add more of both the next time I make dumplings.

Mary's Meatloaf

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2013
This is a really moist and tasty meatloaf. Like many others I made a few changes. I only had 1lb of beef, so of course that's what I used. Instead of the bread crumbs, I took another reviewer's advice and used oats. I was low on ketchup, so I used mild salsa instead. I sauteed onions (plus garlic) in olive oil before adding them to the loaf. And because I sometimes suck at following directions, I added my brown sugar in the loaf. ;/(I got some of it out though) .... Again like another reviewer, because I only had 1lb of beef, I cooked my loaf for 1.5 hrs. It was delicious. My boyfriend went back for seconds. ;)

Slow Cooker Chicken Taco Soup

Reviewed: May 26, 2013
As other reviewers have mentioned this recipe does NOT make your house smell good while brewing. That being said, the soup is delicious. I made a few changes. I added about 1/2 more of fresh chopped onion, onion powder, garlic powder, approx. 1/4 - 1/2 cup of water, approx. 1/2 cup of sugar, salt & pepper (like others suggested), and Italian seasoning. I not only drained, but also rinsed my beans before adding them to the crock-pot, I used frozen corn, because that's what I already had and a Corona beer that had been in my frig for literally months (seriously). This soup is very spicy, but its fabulous! I especially like it when served with the sour cream, cheddar cheese, and tortilla toppings, as suggested by the recipe. I'm really happy I made this! Thanks! :) My advice for those who are thinking of making this... I think you ABSOLUTELY must tweak this recipe per your specifications. If you know you don't like the bitterness of canned tomato sauce, you have to add sugar, if you are a big onion fan (like me) add more onion, if you like herbs, add herbs, if you don't like beer use white wine, but whatever you do, PLEASE DO NOT USE A CHEAP beer. This is an excellent base and for many its fantastic just the way it is, but if you are a picky Lady like I am, you must tweak it to cater to YOUR taste buds. You are doing yourself an injustice not to spice it up to your liking. That's one of the things I really like about this website. Its encouraged! :)

Beef Pot Roast

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2013
This is a very good, very simple recipe! I made it for Christmas dinner & my boyfriend really liked it! The only changes I made were marinating the roast for a few hours before searing the meat. I also added mushrooms & beef broth to my French oven to help flavor the roast as it cooked. It was delicious!!! Thanks for this wonderful recipe!!!!

Key Lime Cake III

Reviewed: Aug. 19, 2012
OMGosh! I just made this cake and its soooo good!!! I had to make a few adjustments because I didn't have any orange juice. So instead of orange juice I used lime (key lime & regular because that's what I had)...Then in the icing because I used most of my lime juice in the cake batter I only added about 2 tablespoons to the mixture. Still, the icing is delish! I will definitely have enough juice for the full 3 tbsp next time, but this cake is so light and tasty! I don't find it overly sweet, as mentioned by many. That is most likey because I used lime juice instead of orange juice. I also added a tsp of vanilla in my icing - my mama taught me that! :)...Any ways I highly suggest trying this cake if you're interested!

Pecan Pie V

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2012
My boyfriend made this pie for Thanksgiving & Christmas. The first time he made it, the pie did not form that disgusting crust on the top. I totally enjoyed the first pie. Every pie since has formed that crust and I SERIOUSLY dislike that crust. My boyfriend says I "eat with my eyes" & that is very much true. He also tried "perfecting it" by added a more gooey filling, which I don't like either. So I made it myself today & it's delicious. I can't tell you how many of these reviews I read yesterday in prerpartion of making this pie. I am so thankful to you ladies for all the good suggestions. I only used light brown sugar (apprx. 1.5 c), I took many suggestions and added .5 c of pecans, I used 2 tbsp of milk and I did not totally melt the better. I think the key to avoiding that disgusting crust from foaming at the top was possibly slightly beating the eggs (just a little bit of bubble) & slow baking.I will use less butter the next time I make it, but this pie turned out wonderful!. So sweet and NOT dry at all as many negative reviewers stated. Also, I must note- I USED to like the traditional super sweet and gooey pecan pie. This pie is so much better and more classy in my opinion. It has the perfect amount of crunch vs. sweet ratio. I highly recommend anyone considering this pie to first DO YOUR RESEARCH and then try it. I doubt you will regret it! T O! I almost forgot -- I uploaded a photo of my pie!

Roast Sticky Chicken-Rotisserie Style

It's excellent. I didn't have any white pepper, so I omitted that ingredient. Still, I found the chicken to be fabulous. I plan to make this over and over again. :) Thanks for sharing this recipe!

World's Best Lasagna

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2009
I made this recipe last week. It was wonderful, the only thing I did wrong is my oven is really hot and the last 25 minutes burnt my cheese a little, but that was my fault. I know that my oven is hotter than most. I will certainly make this lasagna again. I look forward to it. :o)

Sweet Potato Pie II

Reviewed: Oct. 10, 2008
I have to agree with 1 other reviewer. This pie is not even close to my mom’s and honestly that’s not even the point. I knew no one would come close to her recipe, but man this is not even on the same planet. I haven’t put my finger on it yet, but there is something seriously missing in this pie. It doesn’t have enough flavor or spice. Something is missing! I won’t make this again, sorry..

Rum Cake I

Reviewed: Jun. 21, 2008
This cake is one of my favs!!! I initially tried it in 2008 and my boyfriend (who is a huge critic) liked it. Then I made it for my family at Christmas and my daddy raved about it so much that I sent half of it with him home! :) I totally enjoy this cake!! It is one desert (along with my my mama's carrot cake and a red velvet cake recipe) that I always make exceptionally well... I always add a little extra rum to the batter and use pecan instead of walnuts as I am a huge pecan fan and not at all big on walnuts. If you want a good classic moist cake, please make this!

Shrimp Fried Rice II

Reviewed: Jun. 21, 2008
This recipe is awesome. It was really easy!! I'm not a fan of bean sprouts so I omitted them. I added brocolli instead and I have to pat myself on the back! :) I don't care for egg in my fried rice so I ommitted the egg as well. Other than that I added garlic and used uncooked shrimp and also added szechuan stir fry sauce near the end. Again, this was good!!!!
