Vanille Kipferl II

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2011
A helpful hint: 7/8 c. butter is 14 TB. (or 1/2 c. + 6 TB). I didn't have almonds on hand, but put in about 1 tsp imitation almond extract and it was delicious. If your mixture looks more like crumble than dough after combining everything, that's ok! When you go to squeeze and shape the kipferls, the crumbs do turn into dough. Very delicious. I can't wait to share these with my mother-in-law who loves kipferls! Thanks!

Pumpkin Wheat Honey Muffins

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2011
I think they are good as is, but my husband and I both agree that it would be a 5-star recipe if it incorporated some bran. The recipe just screams for bran to really complete it. The flavors are good--the pumpkin and honey flavors are unique and delicious together. My husband thinks the muffins are super sweet, but I think they're just sweet. Will probably look for another pumpkin recipe with bran.

Whole Wheat, Oatmeal, and Banana Pancakes

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2011
My family prefers this pancake over one with chocolate chips---so you know it's good! I didn't blend the oats, used them as is. Added some cinnamon just for the flavor. The pancake is pretty dense but super moist. Substituted same measurement of applesauce for vegetable oil. Be sure to use a very ripe banana. Used the 6 serving recipe and it made about ten 1/3c pancakes. Very delicious. Definitely a keeper--thanks!

Taco Seasoning I

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2010
Made exactly as written. Makes about 3-3.5TB. I used 2.5 level TB in my 5-bean taco soup. Very delicious. Great flavors. I'll definitely keep this recipe handy.... and may just stick with it instead of buying pre-packaged taco seasoning. Thanks, Bill, for sharing!

Skillet Pork Chops with Potatoes and Onion

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2010
I would leave the potatoes cut a little thicker, as well as the onions. The thicker the ingredients, the longer cook time, yes, but also the better texture. I usually make ours in a large pot which works just fine.

Easy Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2010
It's such a mind trick to eat these and remember that they're yellow cake mix cookies. We gave these to our neighbors who loved them and didn't believe they were made with yellow cake mix.

A little dry, but overall a very nice cookie. Perfect colors for the holiday season.

Caramelized Baked Chicken

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2010
Pretty good. We baked ours--probably better on the grill. Not a favorite, though.

Baked Ziti II

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2010
SO DELICIOUS! I use 30-32oz Ricotta cheese (we're fans) and sometimes put browned ground beef in--but it doesn't need it. So good for company--I always get "wows".

Austrian Chocolate Balls

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2010
The glaze never turns out for me, so I skip it. No one complains. The balls themselves are delicious--not too sweet, but definitely chocolatey. I've (accidentally) made them with the granulated and powdered sugar and both versions are good. The ones with the granulated sugar tastes sweeter, while the one with the powdered sugar taste smoother but less sweet. A great treat to make in very large batches.

D's Famous Salsa

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2010
My brother-in-law made this for a get-together and we LOVED it. Great with jalapenos and/or green chiles, depending on how spicy your audience likes it. Great fresh and within the first 3-4 days.

The Best Chicken Fried Steak

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2010
Very delicious! The taste was great and not overwhelming. Put a piece of plastic wrap over the steak when you pound it out; it helps things stay neater and off your clothes.

Mom's Country Gravy

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2010
This makes a LOT! It was so delicious on our homemade chicken fried steaks. 4 out of 5 stars only because this was a little plainer than I was wanting--a very good base recipe, I think.

Shrimp Stir-Fry

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2010
I thought it was good. I would make it according to the recipe next time. I followed reviews (extra soy sauce) that made it a little too mushy for me. I wouldn't compare this to a Chinese restaurant's stir fry, but it's an easy, quick meal.

Chunky Monkey Pancakes

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2010
Really great pancakes. It really does make 9 when using 1/4 c. measurements. I put 2 bananas in instead of 1 (my only variation) and it wasn't too chunky. Great for breakfast for dinner meals.

Turtle Bread

Reviewed: Jun. 11, 2010
This bread turtle came out perfectly. I brushed some egg on the shell and it gave it a shiny finish that helped to divide the shell from the turtle parts. It's 4 stars instead of 5 because the taste of the bread is pretty plain. Next time I'll try a different kind of bread with the same sculpting methods and see what happens. But a really awesome idea. Thanks!

Barbeque Chicken

Reviewed: Jun. 3, 2010
Such a great smell in the oven and so tender and flavorful in your mouth. So easy to put together, too. I only made 2 chicken breasts but with the same measurements of ingredients and it was plenty of sauce. I didn't have any lemon juice so I didn't put it in there and I only had prepared yellow mustard and I put maybe 2 tsp of that instead of the dry mustard. Definitely a keeper!

Funnel Cakes IV

I thought it was great as is. We preferred adding a little vanilla to it, though. But as written (cut to 4 servings) it was great as well. Thanks!
