About this Cook
Mom got me started in cooking when I was about 9 or 10 when she went to work.
My favorite things to cook
Pot Roast with veggies in a dutch oven, slow cooked on top of the stove. Simmered low over many hours, sometimes and long as 5 hours or more. I also do pork spare ribs, browned then cooked on the stove top in a large covered skillet with a little liquid. No kitchen heat in summer months.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Stuffed Cabbage, stuffed peppers, Hungarian Goulash.
My cooking tragedies
Following recipes too closely and not experimenting. All recipes are meant to be altered, except baking!

Baked Ham
When I saw the price of almost $5 for a small package of pre-cut ham, I said no way. I bought a 6 poud half ham for $9 and change, had the butcher cut it in half for me to roast both halves in less time. I plan on giving the other half to the neighbor. Recipe was great, but I added a dash of powdered cloves to the sugar with warm water and honey. I also added a few pineapple rings to the top. A bit sweet only because I cut out all pastries, soda pop and candy.

Pineapple Pork Chops
Since it was only for myself, I used 2 pork chops that were specially bought at 1 inch think. Didn't use brown sugar, couldn't see opening a plastic bg for for the amount needed, only to have it dry rock hard. I substituted dark honey for sweetness, used red wine vinegar instead of the white. I also used 1/2 of a tangerine sectioned, seeds removed and cut each segment into 3 or 4 chunks. After the chops were fried, I poured off the oil and butter mix and deglassed the pan with the chicken-pineapple juice, added the chops back and added the pineapple chunks and added rinsed water chestnuts. set to simmer and covered the pan.
