I have been cooking since I was 14 years old. My mom taught me as well as my dad. My mom could do more with a pound of hamburger than most could do with a fully stocked sub zero fridge. I am a nurse by career and am taking classes to get my bachelor's degree so that I can start graduate school. Cooking is a luxury right now for me, between 12 hour shifts and school there is not much time for cooking. Oh well, I get what fun in I can.
My favorite things to cook
Dessert! I love cooking with chocolate, fruit, unusual ingredients you name it, if it's a dessert I love to make it! The richer and creamier the better.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I love making dishes to take to pot lucks with my children. I have 2 daughters and 1 has aspirations of becoming a chef. I really like teaching them to make recipes that my mother made, her deviled eggs, her potato salad, her lasagna (which is to die for), and her soups. My mother is dead now and making her recipes brings my daughters and me closer to her and together.
My cooking triumphs
I am an amateur cake decorator. My first real attempt at something sort of professional was the 3 tiered 50th anniversary cake I made for them. Since then I have made the wedding cakes for my 2 nephews and my only niece. I am very proud of this accomplishment.
My cooking tragedies
My poor husband eats all of my trials in the kitchen and never complains. He does say however "We don't have to eat that again if you don't want to". I have to say that my worst attempt at trying something new was my meatless cheeseburgers, they were made with assorted herbs and spices and ricotta cheese. They weren't my finest hour as a cook!
