About this Cook
I've been cooking for almost as long as I can remember , though for years I wasn't too adventurous. A few years ago, I started cooking for friends who volunteered to bring all the ingredients, if I'd do all the cooking. We got together a lot of Friday nights and tried a whole bunch of new things. Since then, I've become a sucker for good cookbooks and have been working hard to figure out what really makes good recipes good. It helps having a resource like allrecipes.com. I've really benefited from the comments and suggestions left by other cooks, as well as the recipes themselves.
My favorite things to cook
I love anything with pasta. I also love seafood and Italian foods as well as soups and chowders.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Definitely southern comfort food. It's terrific food and does bring a sense of well-being. I'm always trying to recreate these dishes.
My cooking tragedies
The worst was when I made a Turducken. All I had to do was bake it, but between too many glasses of wine and family visiting, I overcooked it by an hour. I may try again sometime, just to show everybody how good a Turducken can be.

Stuffed Green Peppers I
I made the recipe exactly as written. I thought they were OK, but, all in all, just average. It's a good start, but way too bland. If I use this recipe again, I'll add lots of garlic, basil, jalapeño, or something, to kick it up a notch. I liked the suggestion about using spaghetti sauce. It might be fun to use pasta instead of rice, too.

Zucchini 'Noodles'
I bought a little kitchen gadget called a spiralizer. By pushing/twisting zucchini (or, yellow squash, cucumbers, etc), through the gadget, it creates perfect spaghetti like strands. The prep of this recipe is made very simple.

Homemade Refrigerator Pickles
I was very pleased with the outcome. I sliced, julienned and actually used an apple peeler on the cucumbers to vary their shapes. It all worked. Flavor was wonderful, even if it was a tad sweet for my taste.
