MINI-MI Gathering HUGE on Fun!!!

It was a stunning autumn day with crisp air, red leaves and blue skies in Brighton, MI this past Saturday, November 5th for another successful AR Gathering! However, Sassyoldlady forgot her red shoes, there was no stogie protruding Mominator’s mouth and Maggi gave her hubs a pass to travel to the “Westside” (it’s a Michigan thing!)! How could this be!?!?
We welcomed the infamous Mike Harvey (his wife and daughter were “buying” Chicago and he couldn’t find a charge card in the house before he left), sweet DeniseD (her hubby found fishing more entertaining than us?) and Linnie, who used to live in the lovely town of Brighton, had her homecoming!
Bellepepper and her hubs came in Friday eve so I informed my hubs we would be running over to Brighton to join them for dinner. Now, Mr. Bellepepper has been through this before but mine had no clue what he was getting himself into! We had a delightful time, the “Mr.’s” bonded and mine agreed to come on Saturday.  Thank you, Mr. BP; I think we have a convert for future Gatherings!
There were several AR’rs who were missed and we hope we will meet again in the future. Here is a glimpse into the afternoon…
Mike Harvey heads the table deciding what to have for lunch. I thought the person at the head of the table paid the tab! I guess he was serious his gals took all the credit cards!!!   ;)
Bellepepper would have my punkin’ for the lighting in this, but hey, when the sun is out here, who cares! Mominator, her Mr., Maggi and DeniseD are enjoying the glow. Well, maybe that was the wine!

This is the only pic Mike Harvey wanted published! Good, huh!! He’s garnished by DeniseD, Sassyoldlady, Maggi, Linnie, Mominator, Bellepepper and Mickdee

“Almost” the whole gang! A handsome group, don’t ya think?!?! The elusive Mominator is MIA! She and hubs had another engagement requiring their presence. I quick hug, a waft of cigar smoke and she was gone!!!

Mr. Bellepepper, Mr. Mickdee and Mike Harvey discuss soups, chili and the merits of finding “Bob” (a statue in Brighton).

Mr. Bellepepper found “Bob” !!! We think they might know each other! J

Good job, Dana! It was a delightful afternoon - even though I had to cross Woodward! Nice to see old friends and meet the new!
Nov. 6, 2011 8:43 am
Great job, mickdee! I'm thinking that Hubs and the statue, Bob, may not only know each other, they may be related!!! Notice the striking resemblance?
Nov. 6, 2011 8:48 am
We did have a really GREAT time! Dinner with mickdee and her hubby the night before was a fabulous beginning. We went to a wonderful restaurant called Stillwater Bar & Grill - delicious food! Followed by our gathering on Saturday. So nice to see some old friends again and meet some new ones. Let's do it again!!!
Nov. 6, 2011 9:13 am
Sorry, Maggi, I know that was painful to do! I owe you one!! :)
Nov. 6, 2011 9:15 am
Lol! Bellepepper! The resemblence won't be lost on anyone!! We did have a wonderful time with you and Jim! It was really nice to see everyone and meet some others. Yes, we should do this more often!!
Nov. 6, 2011 9:15 am
Loved that you had such a good time. I'm hoping one of these days I can make a trip to the midwest and meet some of you wonderful ladies in person myself. And seriously, isn't mominator just the funniest person you have ever talked too?

I think it is sort of a given that the AR members will bond, after all we have gotten to know one another here. But I think it is the greatest that the spouses all seem to have a great time too. Thanks for sharing your pictures!
Nov. 6, 2011 11:41 am
Sorry, Mike! I didn't mean ruin your story! At least you have the one pic with all the gals!! :) It was great meeting you!!

BigShotsMom, it is cool how that happens. My hubs had no interest prior but he thought it was really nice and enjoyed meeting everyone! Now he knows some of the people I converse with when I disappear on my computer occasionally!!
Nov. 6, 2011 11:58 am
What a great looking group of people! What I love about this gathering is that the spouses participated. Oh, how I wish I could have enjoed the day with you. I'm so glad to see the pictures too. Great Blog! I like the place where you met. Very nice. Thank you!
Nov. 6, 2011 12:02 pm

Nov. 6, 2011 1:11 pm
We had a great time! What a wonderful day, place and group of people :) The old man and I never go anywhere, but danged if we didn't have to get back for a 50th wedding anniversary open house. (We made there for the last half hour.) I would have loved to stay and yak longer. So nice to see Mr. and Mrs. Sass and Mickdee again!! And great to meet everyone else! Thanks so much for organizing, ladies!

Nov. 6, 2011 3:20 pm
Savvy! You were missed! Wish you could have joined us! Look forward to seeing you again in the future! Mr. BP was happy to have my Mr. take some pix, Belle and I revisited the bar while they went on the search! It was worth it, so cute!
Nov. 6, 2011 3:22 pm
Chris, Mis7up and BN, thanks, fun was had by all! BN, I'm with you! I see the pots growing and never stop to buy a ticket! Can't win if you don't play!
Nov. 6, 2011 3:23 pm
Well, I don't know about everybody else, but I had a great time!! And I apologize if anyone was offended. I do tend to be a little loud when excited. (I think I scared Linnes husband)It was good to see everyone again and the first timers were just as friendly and nice as I knew they'd be. Thanks to Mike, Mickdee, and Belle for the little gifties! Woot! Party on dude!
Nov. 6, 2011 3:28 pm
Cat, you would love them both! Mike really went out of his way to be there and Maggi made the dreaded trip across town! East and Westsiders don't mix here (just an old tale from years ago!) I will return the favor at some point!
Nov. 6, 2011 3:32 pm
Sassy! Glad you made it! Your hubs is so nice! Great to see you both again. Glad you were excited! Wish we had rotated seats at some point! Belle's picture notecards were beautiful and the Adobo Mike put together for everyone was so thoughtful!
Nov. 6, 2011 3:38 pm
I had that same thought about switching seats LOL! By the time I thought about saying something everyone decided it was time to go, way too short like always. We actually made it home this time without going through Detroit, but they had closed our exit here off the e-way and ended up going 6 miles down and back before we could get off the interstate!
Nov. 6, 2011 4:09 pm
It did go too fast! I'm glad you missed our lovely city! However, I guess you are destined to take the long road home! Glad it was a safe trip!
Nov. 6, 2011 4:30 pm
What a great time it looks like you all had! I wish I could have been there!
Nov. 6, 2011 5:53 pm
Dang! I wish I could have been there to meet all of you, and join the fun. Had to WORK!! BOOO!!! Looks like a great time was had by all.
Nov. 6, 2011 6:16 pm
Oh, yes, woot, woot, woot! We had a wonderful time!!! And, I too, thought we should have played musical chairs and mix it up a little, but like always (hah), I didn't think of it until it was too late. Anyhoo, we still had a great time!! Mickdee's hubby said it best - we all have a passion and we've turned it into some wonderful friendships!
Nov. 6, 2011 6:18 pm
Ok, I've had two wines - that should be dah, not hah :~(
Nov. 7, 2011 5:50 am
Well, crud, BP, I missed cocktail hour last night!!;) We'll move around or come up with a different seating arrangement, or even saty a bit longer!! I think hubs put it that it is a passion we've turned into comradery! Well put!!
Nov. 7, 2011 5:52 am
LumpyGravy, you were so close! Maybe next time!! We wish you could have made it, too, Mother Ann.
Nov. 7, 2011 6:28 am
Mike Harvey and Mr. Bellepepper - you both just add "class" to the whole group. I especially like "Bob" and Mr. Bellepepper! I can see the resemblance. LOL :)
Nov. 7, 2011 6:43 am
Sounds like an awesome get together. Maybe one of these day when I retire I might be able to show up at one of the get togethers. I would love to meet in person the people I read about most everyday here on AR.
Nov. 7, 2011 7:20 am
LOL Shearone! Yes, that's my Hubs. Always hamming it up! I have to say, the resemblance is uncanny!
Nov. 7, 2011 8:23 am
It was a GREAT time! Good food, new friends! Doesn't get any better than that!
Nov. 7, 2011 4:17 pm
What fun! :-)

Nov. 9, 2011 2:32 pm
I knew you'd all have a good time! Wish I could have been there. I'm going to South Padre Island in February. Anyone live close?
Nov. 9, 2011 5:35 pm
I can't wait for the next mini-MI event! Maybe Mr. Denise D will come with me next time.

Nov. 11, 2011 5:07 am
I should have come looking for this report on the Mini-MI Meeting earlier! I loved, loved, loved the photos! Does Mr. Bellepepper have any long lost famous relative in MI named Bob?! Sounds like a fantastic gathering of AR people (as usual), or should I say a gathering of fantastic AR people?
Nov. 18, 2011 3:07 am
Thanks, Marcella, we missed you! I think Bob & Mr. BP are related!! :)
Nov. 28, 2011 9:26 am did I miss this one before...looks like Mr. BP found Mominator’s stogie. Glad you had a wonderful time...and loved seeing everyone in the photos.

About Me
We spend part of the year in Naples, FL enjoying the sun, so I feel blessed to be able to do two of my favorite loves all year; golfing & grilling. I love entertaining and planning get-togethers for friends. It's fun to come up with a theme for the evening and develop a menu around it.
My favorite things to cook
Since grilling is my favorite way to cook, I enjoy finding different marinades & sauces and interesting side dishes to keep things interesting. In the fall I enjoy spending a Sunday in the kitchen making a pot of something hearty and comforting. I don't bake much but enjoy a flour-fest in the kitchen once in a while!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Traditions have changed over the years juggling family visits and big meals for the "kids". I would have to say brunch is now my favorite meal to make. It makes for a relaxed morning/afternoon, no one has to rush and there is plenty of time between visits for those "kids" that split their time with other family members! A full tummy and a Bloody Mary makes for a nice nap before more festivities begin!
My cooking triumphs
I'm pretty happy anytime someone in the family says the really like something. They know they have to be careful saying that or they will find themselves eating it again real soon! Ha! Recently, I have enjoyed mastering different kinds of cheesecakes. It's an elegant and rich dessert that can be made into any imaginable flavor!!!
My cooking tragedies
I'm famous for leaving something in the oven or grill. Mashed potatoes... grilled corn for dessert anyone?!? A little less wine, please!!! ;-)
