About this Cook
I have been homeschooled since first grade and, as a result, have been very involved in the kitchen for years. Despite a deep interest in other things, such as sports and literature, I am hoping to pursue cooking as a career. I love playing tennis and have played on a homeschool highschool flag football team. I have also volunteered at the local Hospice care center. Which includes knitting prayer shawls to give to hospice patients.
My favorite things to cook
Desserts! Anything and everything sweet! I love to cook other things but, desserts are definitely my favorite.
My favorite family cooking traditions
At my Mamma and Pappa's house during the holidays, Mamma always makes peanut brittle and Pecan Pie. I have grown up eating the brittle at Christmas and have yet to try to make it myself. The Pecan Pie is definitely popular here in Texas but, I'm still working on getting one that tastes really good!
My cooking triumphs
Guacamole!!! I love guacamole! I've been making it for a couple of years now and I've been working to perfect it. My parents small group (from church) was having a mexican pile-on dinner and they asked me to make the guacamole. Everybody loved it! I was so excited!
My cooking tragedies
A while back, around Christmas, my mom and I were making jam. We made this really good strawberry cranberry jam. Unfortunately, we didn't have a big enough pot and the jam ran all down the front of our oven. It was a pain to clean up (we had to take the oven door off to clean it). A couple days later we decided to make jalapeno jelly. It sure sounded good before we made it...The recipe called for cider vinegar and that should have been the first sign that this was a bad idea. To make a long story short: our whole house smelled awful and we spent the rest of our time outside that evening. We had to go out to eat and were dreading coming back inside our house.

Vanilla Crepes
When I tried crepes before, I made a huge mess and burnt them all. This recipe was very simple and, I agree, the extra vanilla was heavenly. The only problem I had was when I poured the batter into the pan, it was to thick to move around. So, I added some extra milk (about 1/2 cup). That really allowed it to spread in the pan better. And, though it probably didn't need it, I also added about a teaspoon extra of vanilla. I would definitely recommend this recipe, and trust me, you won't be sorry when your kitchen smells like waffle cones!

Puppy Chow
I don't know how you can really go wrong with a recipe like this. Puppy Chow is one of my favorite snacks and I think this recipe is great. The only thing was that there was not near enough powdered sugar for the mix, and it got to be a mess when I had to keep opening the bag and pouring more in. But, if you just make sure you have extra powdered sugar, I think it will be just fine. Thank you for the recipe!

Bon Bons
These bon bons were good, but like some other people thought, they tasted a little too sweet. They did make a huge batch (like other people said) and we didn't use it all. Also, I had a lot of trouble trying to dip the dough into the chocolate. I was trying to use a toothpick/spoon/knife and finally gave up and stuck my hands into the chocolate. It became really messy. They didn't really look too nice in the end. Plus, after sitting on the counter for a few minutes they started to soften. I had to keep putting them into the fridge. Thank you, anyway.
