Chef John's Bacon Jam

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2015
I made this recipe for my hubsand's valentine's day gift!!! It is amazing!!! I only used two very large yellow onions and 1/4 cup red wine vinegar and two tablespoons sherry wine because that was all I had! It was still awesome with those changes. I also loved that it wasn't super sweet or barbecue like. My husband is one happy guy right now :-)

Haldi Ka Doodh (Hot Turmeric Milk)

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2014
Very delicious drink!!! I am not a huge fan of tumeric flavor by itself, but this particular blend of spices reminds me of chai tea! I am actually using this to treat a cold and it really seems to be helping. I have also read that it is extremely helpful for menstrual cramps too.

Country Pumpkin Muffins

Made this recipe as directed with a few changes. I left out the raisins and nuts. I used milk in place of the water and I added 1 tsp of maple flavoring and strudel topping. These were awesome and I will make this recipe again and again!

Eggplant Parmesan II

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2011
Salting and rinsing the eggplant is a must. Also I baked the eggplant on a rack at 425 for 10 min and the rack eliminated the need for me to flip the slices. Did add drained cottage cheese with fresh Italian herbs between the eggplant layers.

I have tried this recipe as written and then I have let the dough rest for 10 min before rolling out and it was so much better! Now I can make my own pizza for a quick lunch. Thanks for the recipe!

Chocolate Cornstarch Pudding

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2011
I only gave it four stars because I used playkittenpie's review ideas and my pudding turned out awesome! If your pudding does set up too thick you can more milk if you like. Just whip the pudding with a wire whisk while you add the extra milk. My pudding gave Jello instant chocolate pudding mix a run for it's money!

Cheesy Vegetable Soup I

Reviewed: Jan. 24, 2011
You can make a basic white sauce (béchamel) and add chicken broth and a good splash of white wine as well and have the same results. I used frozen mixed vegetables and I also seasoned with garlic and onion powder, season salt, pepper, and Mrs. Dash no salt table blend seasoning! This was awesome and my two year old loved it!

Molasses Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2010
This cookie reminds me of a gingersnap! I mixed the dough in about 10 minutes and used it right away. Do not melt the shortening, just cream it together with the sugar. This will allow you to use the dough immediately without chilling it.

Anniversary Chicken I

Reviewed: Oct. 6, 2010
I made this recipe yesterday and my husband and I fell in love with it! I used stir fry sauce (that was all I had on hand), sauteed onion in place of green onions. It was awesome!!! I will make this again and again. I did pound my chicken breasts till they were about 1/2 inch thick and I seasoned them with onion and garlic powder, Mrs. Dash salt-free table blend seasoning, and Adobe chicken seasoning.

Breakfast Pies

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2009
For those that are commented on the dryness of the recipe. You can make your own biscuit dough or use a biscuit mix and add the drained sausage and shredded cheese to the dry ingredients after you have cut in the shortening and then add the liquid as directed. Roll and cut out like regular biscuits. These are awesome.

Awesome!!!! I added 1/3 cup extra of each : wheat germ, unprocessed wheat bran flakes, and nonfat powdered milk. I also added 1/2 cup slivered almonds and doubled the syrup. I did also use unsweetened coconut flakes ground fine in the food processor. It was delicious and my husband said it tastes like Post Granola cluster cereal!!!

Southern Dirty Rice

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2009
This is an awesome recipe. I used ground spicy italian sausage in place of livers and gizzards (didn't have any on hand). I browned the sausage and then ground it fine with the food processor. This was so good..... It is way better than Bojangles dirty rice which is my favorite. I am so pleased I can now make a better version at home. Oh, I didn't add all the cayenne pepper and mine was very spicy.

Pizza Casserole

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2009
I am giving this four stars, because to make it five stars I had to adjust the recipe. I added black olives, mushrooms, mozzarella cheese, fresh grated parmesan cheese, and sharp cheddar cheese, and Chef Paul Prudhomme's Herbal Pizza & Pasta Magic seasoning blend. I did use 1/2 lb ground beef, approx. 4 oz of pepperoni slices quartered, 4 3/4 cups cooked elbow macaroni, 26 oz. can of Classico Italian sausage pasta sauce, 1/2 can of diced tomatoes (that I processed till smooth) and approx 1/3 cup milk. I kinda eyeballed the liquids ( I make casseroles often and can kinda know when they have enough liquid). I followed the directions and then mixed everything together in a big bowl. I seasoned extra well Herbal seasoning and salt, onion powder, and garlic powder as well. I mixed in one cup of mozzarella, 3/4 cup cheddar, and 1/2 cup fresh grated parmesan cheese as well as most of the olives and mushrooms. I baked in 2 1/2 qt casserole and a 1 1/2 qt casserole dish ( yes, it made a ton of casserole)for 50 minutes until it was bubbling in the middle. I added 1 cup of mozzarella and 1/2 cup of cheddar mixed together on the top. Then I sprinkled with some onion, bellpepper, olives, mushrooms and whole pepperoni slices I set aside for the top of the casserole. Put in over for about 7 minutes until cheese was melted. I swear this was the best casserole I have made yet. My husband kept saying "Will you please move this pot so I won't get anymore!!!!" I am pregnant and have

Sugar Cookie Icing

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2008
This was a very easy recipe! I did have to add an extra teaspoon of milk for it to have the right consistency but it was fine. I used this for a cookie exchange party and made individual icing colors in zippered sandwich bags (took the place of pastry bags). The cookies turned out gorgeous and I will definitely use again. Also didn't make the cookie too sweet!

Cream Cheese Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2008
I am only putting 1 star because I didn't use the recipe measurements. I used measurements by another poster Cherish. The cookies are awesome! I may never make plain sugar cookies again. They were soft, moist, and very flavorful. I was not able to chill the dough for 8 hrs, so I chilled in the freezer for 2 hours and rolled them out on floured wax paper and baked them on parchment paper. GREAT, GREAT, GREAT recipe!
