French Pastry Pie Crust

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2012
I'm 68 and have NEVER been able to make a pie crust - every recipe fell apart. A young 34 year old friend from church made a pie and this was the recipe. She gave the recipe to me and I followed it exactly. PERFECT EVERY TIME! I follow it exactly. I use my pastry blade to make sure I break up the Crisco very well and it's in tiny pieces, then when the liquids are added, just lightly mix it and form the ball. Don't overwork this - just when it's formed together, it's ready. So, learning to make a pie crust from scratch is off my bucket list. Need more on that list. I made a fresh apple pie with this recipe when my sister's came to visit = it was warm and they were thrilled. Loved it!

Salmon Patties

Reviewed: Feb. 25, 2011
These were the best salmon patties I've ever made. I tend to be a "do it yourselfer" cook but my salmon patties all fall apart. These did not and they were yummy - my goal was to make them exactly as written. I always make any recipe from a website as written and rate it as written. However - I wasn't paying attention to what was written and added the cornmeal to the patties. My Cuisinart Smart Stick chopper did a great job of chopping the veggies fine, which my husband prefers. Anyway - they still turned out delicious. I suppose because I did use all the ingredients. However, because I messed up and added the cornmeal I did have to add a little egg beater to add more liquid. They stayed together perfectly. I made the crock pot refried beans on all recipes with this. Good meal. Thanks for posting these - I looked everywhere for what sounded like a good salmon patty recipe with veggies.

Refried Beans Without the Refry

Reviewed: Feb. 25, 2011
Just delicious! I made them exactly as written. My husband and I both felt they did not need any additional liquid and they were perfect. For the leftover, I added juice because I know they'll need it since I froze 3 packages. As others have said, I'll never buy canned again.

Gingerbread Biscotti

Perfect. I didn't change a single thing. They mixed together perfectly and taste delicious. Just have to frost them a little and am taking them for gifts tonight. Next time I might put them in my big Kitchen aid to mix, but I was really pleased with the mixture. Will definitely make again.

Pumpkin Spice Cookie

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2010
I make these occasionally and we love them. However, this week I only had white cake mix so I added 3 tsp. pumpkin pie spice, 1/2 tsp. ginger and 2 tsp. cinammon and 1 tsp. pure vanilla to give it some punch. Still wasn't as good as the spice cake mix but we're eating them. Try this as given for a low fat,low calorie cookie.

Pumpkin Pancakes

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2010
My husband like them but I wasn't thrilled. I tasted the raw batter and felt it needed more pumpkin so I added 1/2 c. more. Still didn't come near IHOP's. But I froze what's left for my husband to enjoy.

Streusel Rhubarb Bread

Reviewed: May 22, 2010
Perfect! I made it as instructions and wouldn't change a thing. I only had skim milk in so couldn't make buttermilk from that, so I used FF evaporated milk - works just fine.

Rhubarb and Strawberry Pie

Reviewed: May 22, 2010
Absolutely perfect - I prepared and baked it exactly as instructed . Just delicious and beautiful. I did buy a Pillsbury pie crust because after 45 years of marriage I still cannot make a pie crust - and I've tried loads of recipes.

Basic Flaky Pie Crust

Reviewed: May 22, 2010
It must be me - I made this 2x today and they both fell apart as I rolled them. The first I refrigerated as instructed and the second I did not. I know it's me - because I've tried to make pie crust my entire 45 years of marriage and just can't! Irritates me that my husband can (LOL). So, off to the store to buy premade, again. I'm sure the pie crust is fine though, I just do something wrong, and this time I did not over roll it as I sometimes do. I even had my husband watched me.

Poke Cake II

Reviewed: May 29, 2009
I used to make this all the time and am making it for coffee hour at church this Sunday. AND I'm making it with the diet sprite and sugar free jello - an elderly member of church told me that's how she makes it and it's delicious. However, I do remember that we used to "poke" this with the handle of a wooden spoon leaving nice holes for the Jello to go down. This is an old recipe that always goes over really well.

Campbell's® Golden Chicken with Noodles

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2009
I cut the recipe in half so I got 2 meals out of it. When the "planned overs" were reheated, I added abut 1/2 cup lite sour cream. YUMMO! As it was though, it was delicious. We'll definitely make it again. I've had surgery and was looking for something simple my husband could fix in the crock pot and this was perfect. HE'LL do it again too! Maureen

I did this using a whole oven roaster. DELICIOUS! And I made chicken/corn/rivel soup with the leftover chicken (got 3 meals of that). This was so good I sent it on to some working friends. Thanks. Maureen

Grandma Jeanette's Amazing German Red Cabbage

YUM, YUM, YUM! I doubled the recipe and kept eating it as it was cooking. DELICIOUS! I don't usually make recipes as they are printed - have to do my own thing - but I did this one exactly as printed. I really could have kept eating it all!! But I restrained myself - with great difficulty. Maureen

Baked Zucchini Chips

YUMMY! I just used equal parts Italian Seasoned breading and parmesian cheese - my husband actually loved these and he is NOT a zucchini eater, except when I doctor it up. It's a keeper.

Mom's Zucchini Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 10, 2008
I'm so glad I found this recipe because I lost mine (my mother-in-laws) and this tastes exactly like hers - DELICIOUS! I did put in 1/2c oil and 1/2 c applesauce and 3/4 c. white sugar and 3/4 c. brown sugar but it still tasted exactly like hers. Thank you for submitting it - it's in the oven now but the batter was delish!
