Tartar Sauce I

Perfect! Simple and easy. Could sub dill relish if you like that extra tartness. I like mine just as written. ;) Thanks!

Tangy Slow Cooker Pork Roast

Reviewed: Sep. 18, 2013
This was a hit! I was looking for something simple to do with my crock pot, pork loin, and what I had on hand, and this fit the bill! Once I made it, everyone ate it readily, and used the juices to put over top of everything else on their plates (green beans and mashed potatoes.) I love the onions on the bottom, they create a nice barrier to keep the roast from drying out. ;) Thanks for a great recipe! :D

Chocolate Butter Cream Frosting

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2013
Pretty good frosting! It is, as others have mentioned, quite thin, and different from traditional buttercreams, but it does thicken up as cooled. My biggest issue with it is that the flavor is definitely more mocha than plain chocolate, thanks to the coffee. I'm sure I could sub it with something else to change the flavor (I'm excited about trying orange juice like someone else mentioned!) I also did vanilla instead of rum, for preferences of the individuals eating the cake. I loved how easy and quick it was to make! That was my main reason for trying it. I'll def make it again when doing simple cakes, I don't see this working with decorating. I was able to pipe a few cursive words, but it's very runny and wouldn't hold up without lots of refrigerating first. :) Thanks for the recipe! :D

Creamy Au Gratin Potatoes

Reviewed: May 18, 2013
I'm very happy with this recipe! My only changes were that I didn't peel my potatoes and I added some garlic powder and a bit of dried parsley to the sauce. Yum!!! Thanks for the simple recipe! :D

Dad's Favorite Peanut Butter Cookies

Reviewed: Mar. 27, 2013
I've been trying different PB cookie recipes lately, and this one was alright. I liked being able to use shortening instead of butter for cost reasons, but it's not worth the difference in taste. I'll stick with the richer, butter flavored ones. :) Thanks for sharing the recipe, and if you're looking for a cost effective, just okay simple cookie recipe, this one is it.

Classic Peanut Butter Cookies

Reviewed: Feb. 27, 2013
Perfect. As it is written, it is perfect! I always try to make a recipe as written even though I read the reviews first. This one turned out exactly as it should have, despite the problems that others seem to have encountered along the way. (Though I admit, I used crunchy peanut butter per hubby's request. ;) My suggestions to those guys are to try again! :) My tips: 1. When you "flatten" the dough balls, press just hard enough to make the cross hatch marks, but not so much as to completely flatten them out. They will bake up fluffy, and slightly flatten as they cool. 2. Make sure your oven is preheated to 375 degrees and the rack is in the center. If your oven is too cool, the cookies won't set fast enough, and they'll spread out and get flat. 3. DON'T over bake them! I know says that in the recipe, but I can't stress it enough. They will definitely seem underdone, but if the bottoms are brown (and maybe even the cross marks on top are slightly browned) they are done! I did 10 minutes exactly. Thanks to Shirley for this classic perfect cookie recipe! This will be added to my company's menu for sure!!! :D

Egg-Free Low-Fat Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Aug. 8, 2012
These were just what they claim to be. A very moist, almost cake-like, oatmeal raisin applesauce cookie. They don't really compare to a traditional oatmeal raisin. I was looking for a vegan alternative, and I opted instead to use my traditional recipe, and substitute flax for the egg, and earth balance for the butter. This was a pretty good recipe, just not exactly what I was looking for. My milk allergy child enjoys them, so we may make them again. :) Thanks for sharing!

Pesto with Arugula

Reviewed: Jul. 18, 2012
In defense of the recipe, I just used what I had on hand, so I'm sure it would have yielded a different taste had I had everything. ;) I had a ton of arugula that needed using, which is how I found this recipe. I did not have any olives or pine nuts...next time I will be sure to get some. And I will probably add more garlic too! I had some fresh watercress that needed using, so I added that too since I didn't have the amount of basil that it called for. Even with all these substitutions and changes, it was still very yummy! I will come back and review it again once I make it as directed. :) The pesto smells amazing and tastes okay. Thanks for the recipe!

Brown Sugar Pecan Candies

Reviewed: Jul. 18, 2012
The recipe is good, but not what I wanted (and certainly not what is in the picture. :( This is basically a pecan praline recipe, and is very tasty! I'm still searching. :)

Candy Coated Pecans

Reviewed: Jul. 18, 2012
These were okay. I followed the directions, only cooked an extra 5 minutes. The texture is a little odd because of the egg whites I guess...almost fluffy like meringue. :) And they are a little bland. I will try again with the recommended changes from the other reviews, such as adding cinnamon. :) Thanks for sharing! UPDATED: I realize now I only used half the amount of called for pecans, and not double...that would account for my "meringue-ness" lol!

Chocolate Lover's Cheesecake

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2012
AMAZING! I LOVED this cheesecake as did my entire family! I can't say anything bad about it...except I wish I had more. ;) I did drizzle it with chocolate syrup and I think that took away from the chocolate flavor...it's not overly sweet and the syrup is. ;)

One Bowl Chocolate Cake III

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2012
Okay, I was initially going to review this with 4 stars, but trust the reviews that say it's better the next day! It is easy to make and it tasted alright when I first made it. I iced and decorated for my daughter's school party the following day and when I got there to serve the cake, it tasted out of this world! I can't comprehend how it did that, but it really did! It's very moist and even sticky (clean up isn't too much fun, make sure to use parchment paper!) Yum! Thanks!

Soft Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2012
I really thought these were tasty but they weren't the soft cookies I had hoped for. They turned out very thin and kinda cripsy on the edges. I think if I hadn't pushed them down with the fork, maybe they would've been puffier and softer, but I don't know. Maybe I'll try it next time. :) But they were very tasty! :D

Rolled Buttercream Fondant

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2011
Pretty decent fondant recipe for just covering cakes. I made it exactly to the original recipe specs, and it turned out really soft, and a little "shiny." So I'm refrigerating it to see if it helps, but I still don't think it's going to be as stiff or rubbery as I'd like. I could probably add some gum paste to stiffen it up, or even more powdered sugar, but I'd hate to add too much and get cracks. :) It does taste very good, and I wanted to try this over others due to the dairy-free factor. I'll update if anything changes tomorrow.

Walnut Brownies

I was looking for a dairy free brownie for my daughter's birthday, and decided to try these...I'm so glad I did!!! We didn't put in the walnuts, and they were perfect! I am going to triple the recipe (or quadruple!) today for my birthday, and I'm so excited! What a timeless recipe!

Homemade Vegetable Juice Cocktail

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2011
This was pretty good! A lot less salty than V8...but it can be suited to the drinker's taste. I downsized the recipe considerably and of course, I don't have a juicer for all these yummy veggies...so I used a blender and strained it. :) Thanks for the recipe, my dad sure appreciates it! :D
