About this Cook
I've been waitressing for many years. I love the culinary knowledge I have gained working in the fine dining industry. Also, my cooking benefits b/c I have professional chefs whom I can consult with whenever I have questions. My wine pairing abilities are not too bad either.
My favorite things to cook
Anything and everything!! Especially if it doesn't cost me too much, and most of the ingredients are items that I already have on hand.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My grandparents are from Ukraine, and my mother and grandmother used to make the most amazing perogies. Unfortunately I have not attempted them yet, but some day I will!
My cooking triumphs
I try to cook for my fiancee and I at least a few times a week. When I make a dish that turns out delish, professional-looking, and HEALTHY (not 'diet' but not overloaded with fat, salt, and calories)....I am most proud of my cooking. Also, I love experimenting with new spices and methods- I never stop learning when I'm in the kitchen!
My cooking tragedies
Hmmm, lots of tragedies. Probably the most memorable was my very first attempt at making chocolate chip cookies all by myself. I used powdered sugar from a jar that I thought was filled with flour! Needless to say, I ended up with a melt-y mess and 10-year-old me in tears!!!

Braised Lamb Shanks
Easy and delicious! I actually forgot the olive oil completely and since they turned out so tasty, I don't know that I would even add it in the future or at least I would reduce it to a couple tablespoons to save on some fat and calories. The meat provides enough fat on its own as it braises. Also, I had never made lamb shank before, so I looked up how to trim them before cooking and I think the best method is to leave the membrane on the shanks as they cook....trim the fat only. Without the membrane, all the meat will fall off the bone which makes serving a bit difficult.

Masala Chai Brownies
Made these for my vegan little brother....absolutely delicious! I was slightly confused about the Masala chai, though....I wasn't quite sure whether to use tea brewed with water or with soy milk (to make sure that they are vegan). After researching the traditional way to make the drink I went with a combination of the two and they turned out fabulously!

Carib Black Bean Soup
The flavor is incredible! This had my husband longing for his tropical homeland of Brazil. Easy and healthy too!
