About this Cook
I am 56yo woman and I drive a 18 wheeltruck with my husband of 32 years. I have to admit I have been away from cooking for many years with my kids and husband gone most of the time. But now, since we have a truck that has a full kitchen I am enjoying cooking for us. Our truck has a micro/ convection oven, two burner cooktop, apt. size refrig, sink and lots of storage so I can basically cook any thing here that I could at home. I enjoy all the recipes on allrecipes and have tried several. It's great to be able to eat something besides "over-cooked, over-steamed truckstop food and know that it is healthier than restaraunt food.
My favorite things to cook
Since we are not home often and I miss being home, I like to prepare the comfort foods that my mother used to make and that I made for my kids when they were young. Basics like pork chops, potatoes, green beans. Somehow I don't feel so far away from home even though I may be in New York, Canada or Florida all in one week. I am starting to venture out and try more of the interesting recipes I've on this site.
My favorite family cooking traditions
All our children live in different parts of the country so it is especially nice to get together. Since Christmas is difficult for all of us to get together, we have started (last 4 years) of getting together on the Fourth of July long weekend to celebrate every family members birthday. We have a BBQ, swim and go to the fireworks display. Everyone talks about doing it again next year, all year. Wish we had started that many years ago. Tons of outdoor food over the entire weekend, steaks, chicken, sausage and of course hot dogs. Everyone throws in a few dollars so the cost of the celebations doesn't throw a wet-blanket on the fun. I highly recommend this to any family that has members who live far away. By doing this in the summer we don't have all the kids underfoot because it is too cold to go outside. I'm looking forward to trying some of these BBQ recipes next year that I found on Allrecepis this year.
My cooking triumphs
Just having my family and friends go away from the table full and happy.
My cooking tragedies
Everybody still talks about the Christmas turkey I tried cooking in the microwave 20 years. It was not pretty!!!

Bahama-Mama Pork Chops
Excellent meal! Although, I had to change it a bit because I didn't have the 'chili sauce'. I used BBQ sauce instead. Still tasted delicious, even my picky husband said it was excellent. I served it with scalloped potatoes and Cole Slaw (for a change from lettuce salad). The best meal this week, thank you.
