Ash-e-jow (Iranian/Persian Barley Soup)

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2011
Different but very good. I did add some red lentils and extra parsley.

Dad's Cookies

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2011
The dough seems very oily and I will try cutting back to 2/3 cup next time. I followed the suggestion of previous reviews and toasted the oats and coconut. I make some with and some with out chocolate chips. Both are very good.

Tuscan Soup

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2011
yum! Just the right amount of kick. I doubled the evaporated milk but otherwise followed the recipe.

Barley Bake

Reviewed: May 23, 2010
So good! I used olive oil instead of butter but the first time it was far to greasy. Second try I cut the fat by just more than half and it was much better. Would be even better with roasted cherry tomatoes.

Baked Beef Stew

Reviewed: Jul. 2, 2009
I followed the advice of some of the other reviewers and breaded the meat first. Everyone said it was one of the best stews they ever had. It did seem like a lot more work than a pot or slow cooker stew though.

Bird Seed Energy Bars

Reviewed: Jul. 2, 2009
I didn't expect to like these but I do! My only complaint would be that the chocolate chips seemed a little out of place - like they needed to be tripled or taken out.

Logan Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 2, 2009
I did not like this at all! to be fair it is the only logan bread recipe i have ever tasted, so maybe I just don't like the bread but to me the flavors just didn't mix well. I also don't see why it is 'perfect for camping or hiking' because I don't think it would keep very well.

Black Bean Hummus

Reviewed: Jul. 2, 2009
a good alternative for a different flavor or if you don't have any garbanzo beans around but i didn't think it was anything special.

Finnish Pulla

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2009
I loved the cardamom but other than that wasn't too impressed. It was just way too dry. I will probably just add the spice to the Portuguese sweet bread recipe from the company's coming bread cook book.

Moroccan Tagine

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2009
it was okay but not great. More of a soup than a stew, but I loved the chickpeas. I will make it again, but not very often.

Barbeque Beef Casserole

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2009
i added Worcestershire sauce, garlic and extra 1/2 cup bbq sauce. I tripled it for a big crowd and everyone loved it! I did use my own cornbread recipe instead of a box though.

Quick Brownbag Burritos

Reviewed: Feb. 18, 2009
I'm not big on hot-spicy food, so I cut the chili pepper down to 1 teaspoon and the burritos came out awesome. After assembling the burritos I brushed them with olive oil and baked them for 15 minutes at 400 degrees. It was quick, easy, economical and a nice change from meat. I'm going to try making a mini version to freeze for a filling snack option.

Bruschetta Chicken Bake

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2009
As other reviewers have mentioned, this is a good idea that could use some tweaking. My stuffing came out all soggy, and I thought the whole thing was a little too salty.

Italian Spaghetti Sauce with Meatballs

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2009
Excellent! I made a huge batch to feed a crowd and everyone loved it. I thought the sauce could use a bit more flavor but no one else agreed with me.

Chuck Roast with Homemade Noodles

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2008
I like the idea of this recipe - noodles were a nice change from potatoes with the roast, but I have used better noodle recipes. This one was very stiff and difficult to roll out, and didn't have quite as good of flavor.

Cinderella Pumpkin Bowl with Vegetables and Sausage

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2008
Great recipe! I used garlic sausage since I had it on hand, and cut back on the cooking time by a couple hours. (Cooked the pumpkin for 1hour at 400 and 1 hour at 350, then added the filling and continued cooking for 30 min.) The pumpkin was a little charred on the outside and not nearly as pretty as it could have been, but it was fully cooked and everything tasted wonderful.

Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookies II

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2008
Wow! I love these cookies! I under baked them slightly so they came out gooey and stayed moist. Also, I always add 2-3 tablespoons of molasses to my cookies for a fuller, richer taste.

Amazing Italian Lemon Butter Chicken

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2008
I don't understand all the high ratings for this recipe. It was visually unappealing, oily and bland (except for the capers which overpowered everything). Not worth the effort it took to make.

Squash Stuffed Chicken Breasts

Reviewed: Sep. 17, 2008
Good idea, but it just didn't have enough flavor for me. Maybe if it was coated with Italian bread crumbs?

Easy Stovetop Peach Cobbler

Reviewed: Aug. 25, 2008
This is the best use for store-bought cake mix that I have ever seen! My husband loves it, the youth I work with love it, and it is a great luxury food on a cold camp-out (if you are bringing canned food along anyway.) I do sometimes have trouble with patches of dry cake mix left at the end of cooking, but I just mix them back into the rest of the goo and enjoy. Awesome with cream!
