I enjoy cooking and entertaining. I've been blessed with two great teachers. First, my grandmother, she was an expert at country comfort food. She used fresh ingredients from her farm and always put a pinch of love in everthing she made. Second, my wonderful husband. He loves to experiment with gourmet meals and loves to try new recipes. He has taught me so much about technique and how different ingredients blend together for the perfect taste.
My favorite things to cook
I enjoy cooking comfort food (soups, stews and veggies) and I make most meals from scratch. We are trying to use local free-range meats and eggs and are lucky to have a good selection available in our area. Summer is my favorite season because I can cook meals using our garden fresh produce.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every Sunday and I do mean EVERY SUNDAY, my grandmother had a big pot of pinto beans, cornbread and fried potatos. She always had other things to go along with the meal but I usually only that the beans and cornbread (with a big glass of the sweetest tea you've ever tasted). I try to make this as often as possible and hope someday to have her meal every Sunday.
My cooking triumphs
I have just leaned to make homemade bisciuts!!! I'm also proud to say that my family loves my home baked breads.
My cooking tragedies
Let's just say that my boys had to eat several batchs of thin, crispy, burnt-on-the-bottom biscuits before I finally got it right.
