Lava Lamps
Made this for New Year's toast and everyone loved the lava lamp concept. Even our son, the bartender was impressed. Now a tip for novices (like me:0): I used a Trader Joe recommend that was a Cava Brut and learned the hard way that I don't like Brut - which typically is very dry. Maybe this is common knowledge but I had no clue. Some liked it but I did not and think that especially for this specific combo a sweet sparkling wine would be much better. I contemplated dropping in a little cube of sugar to soften the blow but never got around to it. I also screwed up (trying to do to much prep for dinner party) and did not include the vodka in the jello which turned out to be a good thing. That way I was able to make the children Lava Lamps with 7-up (worked like a charm) and for the grown ups we just put a 1/2 pour of vodka on top of the jello before topping off with the bubbly. I would definitely try again with a sweet bubbly. Lots of fun. Cheers!

Garlic Red Potatoes
Most excellent as is. The lemon threw everyone for a loop - no one could figure out what was giving the dish such a kick. It was devoured and my daughter licked the pan - it is that good and definitely not the same ole red potato fare. Only downside and completely my bad - I used a glass container and it more than doubled the cook time and completely threw off the timing of the meal. Sadly a lesson I repeat every 3-4 years it seems. Just a reminder to forgetful souls like me.

Texas Slaw
Was most requested recipe at the potluck. Strangers were hunting me down for the recipe. Deliciously different exactly as posted. Easy to make and with common ingredients. I will make it again.
