Jo Jo Potatoes

Reviewed: Jul. 15, 2008
I guess my rating doesn't truly reflect this recipe as I tweaked it quite a bit...I didn't want to deep fry the potatoes so I substituted about 2 or 3 TBS Shake N Bake Southern Fried coating mix for the flour, and I used 1/4 tsp. pepper instead of 3/4 tsp. lemon pepper. I microwaved the wedges for 1 minute, then added all the seasonings, and then baked them in the oven on 450 degrees for about 20 min. on a greased cookie sheet with melted butter drizzled on top. They came out perfectly crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside. After reading several reviews where people thought these were lacking in flavour due to the flour, I think the Shake N Bake was a good choice.

Sweet and Sour Meatballs I

Reviewed: Jun. 23, 2008
It doesn't get much easier than this, and it was very good. I cut the recipe in half because I was only using 1 lb of ground beef. The sauce was quite tangy so I added a little extra grape jelly, as my husband prefers more sweet than sour. He and the kids liked these a lot. For the meatballs, I made my own using 1 lb ground beef, 1 egg, 1/4 c bread crumbs, 3/4 tsp seasoned salt, 1/4 tsp garlic powder and 1 TBS dried onion flakes.

Shrimpcargot

I love mushrooms and I loved this appetizer! I prepared this a little differently. I brushed some butter on my mushrooms and then baked them at 375 while I was preparing the shrimp. Once the mushrooms were stuffed, I only needed to broil them for a couple minutes.

Baked Pork Spring Rolls

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2010
These were really good, I would make them again. I had to use egg roll wrappers, as my grocery store didn't have spring roll wrappers. I used coleslaw mix and added a TBS of soy sauce, as suggested by others. I used "A Taste of Thai" sweet chili sauce.

Cantonese Barbecued Pork

Reviewed: May 20, 2011
This was really good! I had leftover meat so I diced it and made a soup. I sauteed 2 large minced garlic cloves, 1 med. onion diced, 1 inch piece of sliced fresh ginger, 1 minced Thai chili pepper, and I diced 1/2 orange pepper, 1 rib celery and 2 med. carrots. To the sauteed veggies, I added the pork, 4 C. chicken broth, and 1/2 tsp. fish sauce. I simmered this for 1/2 hour and served over noodles. It was delicious!

Happy Shrimp

I doubled the sauce and added mushrooms as suggested by other reviewers...I served over fettuccine. I also used 1 tsp corn starch to thicken the sauce. This was very good, next time I will add parmesan cheese.

Curried Coconut Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2011
This was good! The chicken was tender enough to cut with my fork! I added some jalapeno pepper as suggested by another reviewer. I only added 2 TBS of sugar, which was enough for me. Update: I originally gave this 4 stars but I'm changing to 5 stars. The dish is so much better the next day. Everyone I served this to loved it!

Banh-Mi Style Vietnamese Baguette

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2011
I loved this sandwich! I might try it with chicken the next time as suggested by others, or maybe even thinly sliced steak. I had leftover veggies, so I threw the chopped jalapeno and cucumber in with the carrot and radish and let it all marinate overnight. The next day I tossed my marinated veggies with some of the leftover sandwich sauce and it made a nice salad.

Jay's Jerk Chicken

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2010
I loved this! I used pork instead of chicken and added a couple minced garlic cloves. I found it a little salty so will use reduced sodium soy sauce the next time, but otherwise this was delicious!

Sean's Falafel and Cucumber Sauce

Reviewed: Feb. 10, 2012
I loved that these are pan fried in a small amount of oil. These were so yummy! My kids tend to be picky eaters but they enjoyed these dipped in sweet and sour sauce, rather than the traditional cucumber sauce.

I loved this! The chicken was very tender. I didn't have bread crumbs so I substituted Shake N Bake Italian mix and I cut the salt back to 1/2 tsp. I will be making this one again!

Dash's Donair

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2010
This might be the best recipe I've tried from this site! Definately restaurant quality! (I'm from the east coast of Canada where these are very popular ) For the donair sauce I only used 1/2 C sugar, 3 tsp vinegar and about 1/2 tsp garlic powder. I thickened it on the stove with corn starch and then let it cool before serving.
