Roasted Brussels Sprouts

Reviewed: Dec. 10, 2010
Odd-looking, to be sure, but really tasty. I had an mix of sizes, so the big ones didn't get quite as sweet and tasty, but still very good.

Orange Glazed Carrots

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2010
The flavor concept was great, but after reading reviews, I was concerned about sauce consistency. So I cut the sugar down to 1 Tbsp., and cooked the carrots in the orange juice. (Basically, I made Julia Child's recipe Glazed Carrots, but substituted oj for the broth. From Mastering the Art of French Cooking I - not an intimidating recipe at all!) I did not use the cornstarch.

Banana Anna

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2010
Very tasty, and I personally liked the more drinkeable texture. Well-balanced, and loved the simplicity that allowed the drink to really shine. This was a smoothie that is truly wholesome, not just masquerading as a healthy drink.

Fried Sweet Potatoes

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2010
Frying the sweet potatoes is intriguing, but this is way too much sugar! I find that frying the sweet potatoes brings out enough of their natural sweetness.

A lovely way to use piecrust; in fact, I even used a piecrust just to make these cookies!

Cumin-Coriander Pork Rub

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2010
Used a few tablespoons of this on pork roast one Sunday, and it flavored the meat very well! Coriander added a unique punch. I like the idea of using it as a gift too; it would be a foodie gift that stands out from the usual.

Raisin Pie

Reviewed: Sep. 4, 2010
This was good, but I think I would add more raisins. I also doubled the cinnamon. I had some concern when I put the filling in the pie as it seemed rather liquidy, but it baked up nicely!

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2010
This is incredible! I had always been afraid to make white clam sauce, despite my love for clams, but this made it easy. Thank you Angie!

Mexican Strawberry Water (Agua de Fresa)

Reviewed: Jul. 2, 2010
My pitcher would only hold 7 cups of water, which still worked well, and gave it more intensity. It is rather sweet, so one could use 3/4 c. sugar, depending on the quality & sweetness of the fruit. Another reviewer said you could make this with other fruits, so I also tried this with honeydew, and it was marvelous!

Simple Arrabbiata Sauce

Reviewed: Jun. 26, 2010
This recipe was spot-on. The only changes were to use a few Tbsp. dried basil, as I didn't have any fresh, and I also sauteed the garlic and spices together before adding crushed tomatoes. Consistency is very good, as is the spice level. Great quick sauce!

Great mix of flavors, and a unique sauce to spoon over the pork.

Taco Seasoning I

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2010
I omitted the red pepper flakes, and on the second batch cut the chili powder just a bit (basically used a scant measurement) but overall, the balance of spices is just right. It's more fun to make spice mixtures than buy them, and they taste so much fresher that way.

Oregon Salmon Patties

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2010
Great recipe, easy, tasty and convenient with the canned salmon; I also appreciate a true homestyle Oregonian recipe! (I lived in Oregon for several years.)

Detroit-Style Coney Dogs

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2010
Although I've had chili dogs, I did not realize the correct way to serve coney dogs was with mustard, and now I see that that's the only way to go! (Minor correction - I think you meant 4 hot dog buns, not 1.)

Roasted Asparagus and Garlic

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2010
My husband and I adore asparagus, and this is a great new favorite. Using the foil makes for an easy cleanup. It's fun to change it up with different herbs, and I like to keep the asparagus whole for a pretty presentation.

Lola's Horchata

Reviewed: Jun. 15, 2010
This was quite good, very much like the horchata we've had at the local taqueria; very well-flavored. I would suggest grinding the rice first, then adding the water, however.

This was an extremely tasty recipe, and very simple. What a fun way to add some Italian zip to the All-American pork chop!

Korean Cucumber Salad

Wow, what a firecracker of a recipe! My husband said it was very like what he ate when he did his tour of duty in South Korea. Thanks for the memories, as Bob Hope would say!
