New Year's Resolutions-to make or not to make, that is the ?!

Every year, everyone asks each other, "What's your New Year's Resolution(s)?".  The question really is, does it work for you?  Most polls show that people tend to break them.  Let's face it, we are humans and we falter from time to time..it's hard to keep some of those goals when life happens. Sometimes, even though those goals are absolutely great, they are hard to reach but the achievements are ten-fold when reached.  I have to admit, yes, I do make goals, long-term and short-term and yes, I do break them.  But, why wait till New Years to make one or two??  Is it worth it??

I have never made a New Years Resolution..hard to believe, eh?! That's because I always have goals, long-term and short-term, all-year round.  It makes it easier for me, instead of putting it off, like "I'll start next week." making procrastination settled in..  The biggest one I always have is weight issues..eating right, exercising, getting fit but gawsh, darn it, its hard. Especially around holiday times.  I started on my hard diet (even though I was on a diet!) just at the beginning of holiday season and boy, it was hard for me to stay away from all that comfort food!!  Upcoming fitness shows are coming, Spring and Fall.  I will admit, I probably won't make Spring's but maybe Fall. Problem is, well, I met a guy...he loves to eat and drink!  He can afford calories in which in my case, I can't.  But even though, he is a bad influence on me, I still limit and enjoy myself sticking to the diet plan that I am on.  So there you go..life happens..we cannot control what may come..children, work, domestic work, activities that may hinder our goals.  But fear not!!  If we just make goals all-year-round, you could see good changes instead of waking up in the morning, realizing "OMG!! Where did this weight come in?" where as little goals we make, it will make a great impact in the long term that lasts longer.  Instead of making excuses, procrastination, putting your goals off for that New Year's Resolution day to come.  The longer you wait, put off, etc... sometimes its harder to do and harder to keep, falling back into the same old pattern, re-breaking that resolution..unless you are really good at keeping them.

This works me..not saying it will work for you..this is just my humble opinion.. Happy New Years everyone!! (yeah, I know it's belated but I just turned blue!!)

I guess we would all be better off if we had the mindset that we can always start again tomorrow. Even if we go astray one day, it doesn't mean that every day has to be that way. I like your mindset!

A couple of years ago I figured that out- Don't wait to New Years Eve. Start anytime! This year I started exercising in Oct so I would be ready for the New Year goal of exercising. It worked! IMO it is never a bad time to wish someone a Happy New Year :)(:

I try to take it one day at a time like they do in AA. Just for today I can make good food choices or just for this meal. Soon it becomes habitual and no longer feels like I'm depriving myself or forcing myself to do something. I figure if the philosophy can help overcome addictions, it can help me take better care of myself.

About Me
I am a single mother of a terrific 9-year old little girl who is a finicky eater. I love to cook, bake, etc. but I am always dieting, so I don't make my favorite foods unless its special occasions. I am known for my famous decadent pastries, baked goods, especially CHOCOLATE!!! Any recipe I can do unless I don't have the tools. I love to collect antiques even old cookie molds that I use for my baking as well as a vintage clothing collector. I am a martha stewart at home, love to create and be artistic. I have lately been creative with recipes trying to create healthy, diet dishes that are tastey and not going on the waist with much success that also don't mess with my blood sugar and getting rave reviews from people in the local gym I attend.
My favorite things to cook
Anything my late Mother used to make for us kids (well, almost..still don't like liver!. I wish I had her cookbook but it was lost in a move years ago. I love making all slovak dishes my mother used to make and do it just from my head from watching her over the years in the kitchen. I hope I pass this to my daughter as well.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Growing up in a european home, the tradition is in the kitchen, if you want to learn how to cook is to sit and watch. This was told to me by my mother as she was told to by her grandmother the same for generations. That's how they become such great cooks that no one could match.
My cooking triumphs
Anytime I make bakery for special occasion, the satisfaction is the smiles on their faces. I have a reputation to keep up for my sweets!! For one function I attend, they always expect me to bring a rich, decadent chocolate dessert which every year is different from the last!!! I have a saying, "Homemade is Bettermade!" when people rave my goodies over any commercial goods. = ) in which gives me my motivation to even be better!
My cooking tragedies
I have had plenty and still do..when it comes to creativity or sometimes, have to re-do cake since I am a perfectionist..but that's how we learn, learn from our mistakes.
