Trying Something New...BISON!

This month's ambassador activities included something totally different (and totally scary, lol) for with bison! Though I WAS scared, I was also very excited to try something new. I chose to make 'Bison Souvlaki Skewers':< , which ended up being a delicious way to try bison for the first time. These could not have been easier to prepare, and the end result was a yummy, juicy, tender treat that the whole family enjoyed. If I had to compare the flavor of bison to something, I would have to say that it most resembled beef, but we actually thought it was a bit tastier. I did marinate the meat overnight, but that was my only change. Combined with the yogurt-cucumber sauce, this meal was a home run!I even invited my mom over for dinner to be part of the 'expierence', lol, and she LOVED it too! I have to say that I haven't seen bison in any of the local markets, but I definitely plan to check the butcher shops and speciality markets for it. Sounds good to me. I have only found ground bison at my stores but maybe I need to check the specialty butchers.

Hi Christina, I think your photo of the bison skirt steak skewers look very juicy. I hope to see different cuts of bison in the stores. I would try the different cuts of bison meat. I think marinating the steak greatly enhances beef skirt steak. So, I can imagine bison would also be tasty marinated.

Julie, I am hoping to find some bison @ the butcher shop too. I've never even seen ground bison in the stores, but am dying to try a bison burger, lol!

About Me
Hi Everyone! My name is Christina and I live in Pittsburgh (born and raised here) with my husband, Jim (we have been married for 12 years), my son Gabriel (he is 8), and our twin baby girls born June 22, 2011, Abby and Ally. I love cooking and sharing recipes and have a pretty extensive cookbook/recipe collection. I think my love of cooking comes from my mom and dad. My favorite family cooking traditions
Just cook with love and patience. I am 1/2 Italian and 1/2 Lebanese, so we have tons of family traditions.
My cooking triumphs
When I was maybe 12 years old, I had a dinner party for some close neighbors and I made stuffed shrimp, homemade gnocchi with sauce, salad, homemade croissants and creme caramel for dessert. I was so proud of myself. When I cook and I can see the look of enjoyment on the people I am servings faces, that is a triumph all in itself.

None that I can recall, LOL!
