A Big Surprise For My Little Guy: A Pre-Halloween Halloween Party!

So, ever since October 1st, my little guy, Gabe, has been having a 'countdown to Halloween'. Being it was Friday, and it was a loooong week for all of us, I decided to surprise Gabe with an early Halloween party. While Gabe was at school, I made 'Classic Caramel Corn':
http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Classic-Caramel-Corn/Detail.aspx?prop31=5< and 'Individual Vanilla Cheesecakes': http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Individual-Vanilla-Cheesecakes/Detail.aspx?prop31=4< . It actually took me two tries before I got the caramel corn right, but I was not gonna give up. In the end, it turned out buttery delicious! I also wanted to do the 'Caramel Corn Treat Bags': http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Caramel-Corn-Treat-Bags/Detail.aspx?prop31=6< , so I headed to the store and picked up some candy corn, gummy worms, nuts and some other Halloween goodies. I went home and began working on the mini cheesecakes. These were super simple and came together in no time. In keeping with my theme, I dyed the cheesecake mixture orange before filling the cupcake liners (Halloween themed, of course). Once they were baked, cooled and chilled, I decorated them with melted chocolate, sprinkles and sugar decorations. It was now getting close to the time to pick up my boy, so I hurried to decorate the table with a Halloween tablecloth and all the goodies, not forgetting to light all of the Halloween lights. When Gabe came in and saw everything, he was so excited and the look on his face totally made all of my efforts worth it! He then proceeded to eat his body weight in candy, but I didn't mind, this was for him.

When it came time to make dinner, I recruited Gabe to help me make 'Creepy Mini Pizzas': http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Creepy-Mini-Pizzas/Detail.aspx?prop31=6< and '1-Dish Pepperoni Cheese Pizza Bake': http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/1-Dish-Pepperoni-Cheese-Pizza-Bake/Detail.aspx?prop31=7< . He had a blast making big spiders on the mini pizzas and I had a blast putting mini spiders (made by cutting a black olive in 1/2, placing one half on the pizza and cutting the other 1/2 into 4 half moon slices and placing them on either side of the 'body' for the legs) onto the pizza bake. We were both so proud of our work, and had so much fun together. Gabe could hardly wait for his dad (the Halloween junkie, lol) to get home. The girls' are still too little to help, but they had an important role too...our official taste testers, and let me tell you, they LOVED every minute of it, lol! After our 'spooky dinner', which was a total success, we all settled into the living room to watch a Halloween movie (kid friendly, of course), play and do some more snacking. Before Gabe fell asleep on the chair (before the movie was even over, lol), he came over to me and told me that he loved me, that I was the bestest mommy in the world and how much fun he had at our party. Even though it was just the five of us, we had one of the best nights we've had in a long time, and all I could think to myself was that this is definitely gonna be a new tradition for my family.

All of the recipes that I prepared are from Karo(R) brand and it's affiliates, and I have to say that we LOVED every one of them! Hope your Halloween is filled with fun and great memories!

Great idea! My kindergarten class is already so excited about Halloween. I set aside a little time each day to talk about their costumes. It rivals Christmas at that age!

Thanks, Deb, mauigirl and TSP! TSP, I love that you take the time to talk about that with them. I agree, it is as important to them as Christmas...ahhhh, to be young again! :)

I, too, loved this blog. Nice that you made this a special treat for Gabe. Singles sometimes feel forgotten and less special than multiples. Sounds like he is going to have a fabulous month.

What a wonderful thing to do! I think Gabe was right, you are the bestest! My daughter has a sign that reads...."Childhood memories last a lifetime!" I think you made one that will last a lifetime! Wishing you and your family a safe and happy halloween! (I love when you post new photos of the kids. I always call Hubby in to see them).

Thanks, Marie! I like to do extra special things with him here and there, so he doesn't feel lost in the shuffel, but he knows he's our #1 little guy! Thanks, Bobbie! My goal is to make sure that my kids have LOTS of great memories and traditions to pass along to their families one day, just like my mom and dad did for us. Hope you have a wonderful Halloween too! Thanks, bd! It can get hectic here a lot of the time, but I still make sure to share special moments and lots of laughs w/ the kids whenever I can. :)

About Me
Hi Everyone! My name is Christina and I live in Pittsburgh (born and raised here) with my husband, Jim (we have been married for 11 years), my son Gabriel (he is 7), and our twin baby girls born June 22, 2011, Abby and Ally. I love cooking and sharing recipes and have a pretty extensive cookbook/recipe collection. I think my love of cooking comes from my mom and dad. We are definately a family that loves to cook (AND EAT!). I also enjoy watching hockey, LET'S GO PENS!, walking, crocheting and doing crafts. I am looking forward to meeting alot of new people here, and sharing tips and ideas.
My favorite things to cook
EVERYTHING! I love trying new things and we are not a picky family, so anything goes!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Just cook with love and patience. I am 1/2 Italian and 1/2 Lebanese, so we have tons of family traditions.
My cooking triumphs
When I was maybe 12 years old, I had a dinner party for some close neighbors and I made stuffed shrimp, homemade gnocchi with sauce, salad, homemade croissants and creme caramel for dessert. I was so proud of myself. When I cook and I can see the look of enjoyment on the people I am servings faces, that is a triumph all in itself.
My cooking tragedies
None that I can recall, LOL!
