Fun with Al-Fresco!!!

Before I begin, I just want to say that I am the first to shy away from something that is super unusal to me, such as the world chicken sausage, lol. I mean, growing up there was one kind of sausage and that was pork sausage (which I LOVE)...We had another challenge w/ al-fresco a few months back, and I was so scared to actually taste the sausage, I think I may have been shaking, lol, seriously. May seem crazy (or not), but I was actually afraid of chicken sausage! Once I finally gained the nerve to actually give it a try (I'll admit, it took some time), I was pleasantly surprised, and have used it a few times since. I am telling you all this because I'm sure some of you are thinking the same thing that I did, 'oh, this can't possibly be any good' or 'ewww, that sounds like it would be nasty', or maybe I'm just crazy and the only one who has had these thoughts (which is totally possible), but honestly, it's good, so give it a try...I bet you'll be glad you did!

Moving on...

As an Allrecipes Allstar Ambassador, and as most of you may know by now, one of our challenges this month was to create a recipe using al-fresco All Natural Sausage. Immediately, my mind went to sandwiches, which is one of my favorite ways to enjoy sausage, not to mention that I am a sandwich junkie, lol. Ok, so now I had an idea, but I wanted it to be different than just throwing some sausage onto a bun and calling it a day...then it hit me...SLIDERS!!! Not just a regular slider, but a SUPER SLIDER! But what would make it SUPER??? Then it came to me...GARLIC BUTTER! I collected all of my ingredients and went to work...yummy work, as I like to call it. Needless to say, the end results were awesomely delicious, and we now have a new sandwich to add to the mix! I buy chicken sausage at my local grocer, Publix in the organic meat section. It is fab. All my friends I steered to it love it too. It tastes fresher than pork somehow and cooks up a variety of ways. I have added it to spag. sauce, Fried it up with fried potatoes, sliced it and grilled it with veggies on kabobs etc. Do try it.

It does sound good, but I would pick a different roll to put it on, maybe something like an Italian Hoagie Roll, A baguette, Or french bread.

Thanks, KingSparta! The little sweet rolls were actually really good, but they are a softer roll, so if you would prefer something crustier, then def use a different type of bread. :)

Thanks, Christina! I actually like the chicken sausage. It doesn't hurt my feelings to know it's lower in calories than pork, either!

About Me
Hi Everyone! My name is Christina and I live in Pittsburgh (born and raised here) with my husband, Jim (we have been married for 11 years), my son Gabriel (he is 7), and our twin baby girls born June 22, 2011, Abby and Ally. I love cooking and sharing recipes and have a pretty extensive cookbook/recipe collection. I think my love of cooking comes from my mom and dad. We are definately a family that loves to cook (AND EAT!). I also enjoy watching hockey, LET'S GO PENS!, walking, crocheting and doing crafts. I am looking forward to meeting alot of new people here, and sharing tips and ideas.
My favorite things to cook
EVERYTHING! I love trying new things and we are not a picky family, so anything goes!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Just cook with love and patience. I am 1/2 Italian and 1/2 Lebanese, so we have tons of family traditions.
My cooking triumphs
When I was maybe 12 years old, I had a dinner party for some close neighbors and I made stuffed shrimp, homemade gnocchi with sauce, salad, homemade croissants and creme caramel for dessert. I was so proud of myself. When I cook and I can see the look of enjoyment on the people I am servings faces, that is a triumph all in itself.
My cooking tragedies
None that I can recall, LOL!
