About this Cook
I prepare food utilizing the "Nourishing Traditions" method which requires a bit of creativity working with some of my AR favorites. Providing delicious, healthy food for my family brings me such happiness!
My favorite things to cook
Cultured butter from local, raw cream. I love using the remaining fresh buttermilk to make sprouted whole wheat bread: sweet, moist, and packed full of protein and fiber!
My favorite family cooking traditions
I have learned a new way of cooking and baking after a life-long addiction to sugar. EVERYTHING has sugar, and all my holiday/special occasion memories are linked with sugar laden foods and treats. Now I love to make wonderful goodies with natural sweeteners -raw honey, maple syrup, or molasses. I don't want my children connecting every good memory to sugar (the bad sugars to be exact). As Michael Pollan says, "Treat treats as treats!"
My cooking triumphs
Anything that I've learned to make without trans fat, MSG, dyes, TBHQ, BHT, or other dangerous ingredients/additives. The food must taste wonderful to be considered a triumph in my book!
My cooking tragedies
Adding too many liquids (broth, orange juice) to a pork roast in the crock pot. Instead of roasting it boiled and was the most bland, horribly textered meat we'd eaten!

Heavenly Shortbread
A hit every time with dinner guests - I have never received so many compliments on a desert!! I usually bake this in 2 pie plates instead of a jelly-roll pan, then cut pie shaped wedges. I use 2 bags of frozen berries (blackberry seems to be the favorite), heat them 'til bubbling and spoon over each wedge of shortbread. I use all organic ingredients so everyone feels a wee bit better about consuming such a decadent treat :)

Chuck's Molasses French Toast
This was wonderul, thank you for the recipe. I didn't have any Challah bread and used sprouted bread (Ezekiel bread). The batter only made enouh to cover 8 slices of bread so I will double it next time.

White Chili with Ground Turkey
It must have been the cinnamon (and I only used 1/2 tsp) that gave this soup a very strange taste. Also, I cut the broth to 4 cups per other suggestions, and it was way too soup-like to be considered chili.
