Hot Cocoa Mix

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2014
My husband and I loved this hot cocoa! I followed the recipe exactly as written and found it perfect! It's not overly sweet, which for us, is what we like! It's hot COCOA , not hot chocolate. If you want it a little sweeter (the way my kiddos like it) just stir in a handful of chocolate chips! My hubby loves to stir some of this into his coffee! :-)

Venison Salisbury Steak

Reviewed: Sep. 8, 2011
I have not tried this recipe.. but to be fair I rated it 5 because it sounds delish! I did want to comment to those that find venison (or elk) meat gamey. I have been eating wild meat for years. My grandma taught me a trick she's used for years. She will either soak the meat overnight (or all day) in either milk or salted water. I use the salted water. The salt helps pull the blood out of the meat, and in turn eliminates most of the gamey taste. As the day goes on, empty the water, rinse, and add the more salted water. The milk works well too, but milk is a little expensive and it seems like such a waste! Best of luck using these techiniques!

Mom's Ginger Snaps

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2009
Oh my..if I could give these 10 stars I would! Did just a few VERY MINOR adjustments..didn't quite double the spices, just used very round teaspoons full..and added about a 1/4 more flour (more for my altitude adjustment). I made the balls much smaller than what the recipe called for so I could get a crunchy, small cookie. (about half the size) Also used green and red decorating sugar with the regular sugar just for a pretty sparkle! The cookies are perfect! (can't stay out of them darn it!)

Quick Mix Spritz

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2009
Yum yum yum! I finally found the perfect Spritz recipe! Simple..and delicious! Only change I made was I used Butter flavored shortening. And added about 1/8 more flour because I live in Colorado and always make adjustments for the altitude. I colored half the batch with Forest Green gel food coloring..and they looked awesome! THX for a great recipe!

Spanish Rice I

Reviewed: May 5, 2009
This is awesome!! Sadly..I usually use the boxed stuff (for time reasons more than anything). But this is worth the time to cut up the veggies. I had leftover red, yellow, orange, & green bell peppers from the nite before so I used a little of each. Made it very flavorful and super colorful!! Also I only used a half of onion because that's all I had left. I will definately put this in my recipe binder as a keeper!!

Best Ever Banana Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 4, 2008
Three simple words to describe this bread --"OH MY GOSH!" Couldn't have a better name! I have tried numerous recipes for banana bread over the years and have never found the "perfect" one. Now I have! Made some very simple alterations... Subbed half the white sugar for brown sugar. Makes bread a beautiful dark color. Added just a sprinkle of cinnamon. Also because I live in a VERY high altitude area I added about a 1/4 cup more flour as I always do to breads, cakes, or cookies! One more little change..instead of buying buttermilk I used the buttermilk powder I had on hand. I sifted the powder with the dry ingredients...then added the amount of water needed to the liquid mixture. It worked fine! Also double the recipe and it worked ok...just make sure you have a pretty heavy duty mixer...cuz it makes a lot!!
