I'm a mom of 5 kids, hence the profile name. With no food allergies in our house, I'm pretty free to cook and bake whatever the day suggests. I LOVE to try new things and have my family rate them 1-10. I seldom get past 8...I have pickey eaters. ;)
My favorite things to cook
Any concoction with chocolate. Enough said.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I give each of my kids one day a week to pick what's for dinner. This weeds out any issues with dislikes WAY beforehand. Now, if one child doesn't like dinner, that's fine...they just choose something on their night to get back at the sibling who chose meatloaf!
My cooking triumphs
After being married for about 14 years, I decided we needed our own Thanksgiving dinner. No need to run 5 tired kids across the country just to eat. not worth it. I made my first turkey!! It was awesome.
My cooking tragedies
When 1st married, for some reason I wanted to make "hot turkey sandwiches". You know, the open face style on bread with mashed potatoes & grave and a side of cranberries. I had NO cooking experience then. I used cheap white bread, deli cut turkey slices, a JAR of grave, instant potatoes, and the can of cranberry jelly. Not bad ingredients--just lack of skill on how to cook it. The potatoes are definitely named instant for a reason. They are not meant to stand for 1/2 hour while prepping other things. They tasted like play-doh.I didn't know how to get the cranberry jelly out of the can-it got spooned out. The jar of gravy...well, nothing to be said of that-it's just plain gross. And to top it off, when cleaning up afterwards, I noticed the bread was moldy. My husband and I still laugh about that eventful dinner.
