Chicken Kabobs Mexicana

Reviewed: Jun. 17, 2008
This recipe was the best marinade for chicken and veggies kabob me and my family have ever had. I tripled the recipe and I separated the chicken and the veggies in it's own marinade so that they could cook at their own time, I wanted to have some leftovers but, we liked it so much that no-one could stop eating it. I make a somewhat similar marinade but I liked this one much, much better. My kids have even swore to hate zuchini but, not anymore!....It is a definite keeper!!! * Yumm Yumm * Thanks for the recipe

Sweet and Sour Meatballs

Reviewed: Jun. 30, 2008
I am very fond of this meal. It's easy and fun. My kids and my husband like it well. The only thing I do differently is that instead of making my own meatballs, I buy the Italian style meatballs. They are perfectly seasoned for this dish. I also like to make these meatballs for appetizers with toothpicks inserted on each one for easy pickup.

Best Beef Dip Ever

Reviewed: Jul. 25, 2008
I would give you more than a "5" rating if I could. This has got to be the best sandwich I have ever had. I am from Chicago and they are famous for their "Italian Beef Sandwiches" I have made it before but it requires slicing the roast very thin and that in itself makes me think twice about making it. But after I tried your recipe I believe I like it better. The meat shredded so easy it was like butter, I followed the other folks advice and after I made the beef I stored it in the fridge overnight and it was just wonderful the following day. My family all loved it and devoured it, they were even reserving some in their name for later (lol) I doubled the recipe because I wanted to freeze half for another time but it didn't work out that way. I couldn't stop my family from eating it. Next time I'll know better. This is definitely going on my permanent cook book of "tried and loved it meals" can't wait till I make it again. I love wonderful tasting food and easy to make. Thanks again for sharing this wonderful recipe.

Mexican Rice II

Reviewed: Aug. 25, 2008
This is the way I was taught to make my rice by my mom and grandmom but, throughout the years I've changed the way I make my rice--for example: When my kids were young they didn't like to see anything in the rice but rice (bits of onion, tomato etc) so, I used powder onion, cumin, garlic etc and as they grew I would add mixed veg.for added nutrition, and other times I omitted the tomato sause, cook rice as directed but at the end of the 20 min. of cooking I would add the cheese of my liking and let sit in the coveded pot for 5-10 min. and gently mix all together. The things you can add to this rice is endless. Just adjust the liquid accordingly. Sometines I add a few spoonfuls extra of liquid for a moister rice specially if adding a veggie that absorbs more liquid. Instead of tomato sauce you can add your favorite salsa for an added kick. Try different things just keep with the rice/liquid ratio 1 part rice 2 parts liquid. ENJOY

Broccoli Coleslaw

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2008
I would easily give you 5 stars but, because I found it too oily I'm gonna give it a 4. Although I loved the taste and I'm not a great lover of sweet dressings, I thought it was wonderful. It was unfortunate that my whole family complained about "too greasy" next time I make it (and there will be a next time) I'll just reduce the amount of oil. and I'm gonna take it to my church's potluck because I know they'll love it as well. Thanks for posting this recipe

Hamburger Rice Soup

Reviewed: Sep. 5, 2008
This was really good soup, I did make it more to my family's taste by adding a bit of salsa to the broth, and added half water and half beef broth. The meat I used was the hamburger patties I had left over from a BBQ. I omitted the potatoes since I don't like too many starchy food in my dish and I thought the rice was enough. I have a interesting tip on how to measure the rice according to the # of folks you'll be serving: "a fist full of rice per person" don't try to grab too much rice only what a comfortable grip can give you unless you like a lot of rice. I will make again--- a great comfort food.

Mushroom in the Middle Meatloaf

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2008
Try this neat trick that I accidently realized while trying to figure how I was going to roll the meat over the soup mix. I had the meat shaped into the loaf and I cut a "wedge" of meat off the top and made a "well" in the meat and poured the soup into it and with the meat I cut off I shaped it to cover the wedge I had made and placed over the soup mix and it was easy to lift and handle as if it had nothing to spill. It worked like a charm and the meatloaf was excellent. I also added a packet of onion soup mix to the meat because I read that it was a tad bland. This is the best meatloaf I had ever tasted and it's the first meatloaf I didn't have to make a gravy for. This will be my new recipe for meatloaf and will definitely make many more times. Thanks for posting this great recipe. R.G.

Homestyle Turkey, the Michigander Way

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2008
this deserves more than a "5"rating. I made this turkey and for the first time since trying to bake a turkey It has been a disaster. I was so ecstatic that I couldn't wait for everyone to sit and eat. My immediate family knew my hesitation when I was asked to make the turkey this year, so they were as happy for me as I was. One thing different that I did was (only because I'm used to doing it this way) to brine the turkey the night before to assure flavor throughout, then I just omitted any other ingredient that would add any more salt. I used half water and half chicken broth and the spices as noted.I now know it wasn't necessary. Beautiful taste Thank you!!! this will now be only way I'll bake my turkeys!!!

Easy Deviled Chicken

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2008
I didn't see anything on the ingredients for this to be called "deviled" so, here's what I did--I marinated the chicken in "original RED HOT pepper sauce" for a few hours then when ready to cook I followed the recipe by breading them and they came out deviled. just like the KFC smackers but not as hot because the meat marinated in the sauce and not poured on top after coating with breading. If you like spice in your meals try it this way. deelish!!!! try it wish mashed potatoes and a green salad to cool the mouth.

Easy Toffee

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2008
I didn't rate this when made this recipe, but it is the best dessert ever. I was skeptical because of the crackers it called for but it went well with this recipe and you couldn't even tell they were crackers. My daughter enjoyed them the most and when one of then fell out of her hand and back on her plate "up-side down" she was so surprised to see the cracker.and the longer they lasted the better they were. (but they didn't last long at all) well, needless to say my daughter definitely wants to include these in our Christmas batch of cookies. Thanks for the post. RG
