Ice Cream Base

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2014
I made this ice cream over the weekend, following the exact recipe with the noted addition of vanilla extract. This is a VERY rich ice cream. I'm giving this four stars instead of five because it is much too rich for my taste. I'll make it again and modify the recipe by replacing one of the cups of half and half with milk. If you are into extremely rich ice cream, don't modify at all!!

Best Egg Rolls

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2013
as written, this is no more than a two star recipe. I agree with other reviewers about the egg rolls being bland and not full of flavor. The second time I made them, I adjusted the recipe so much, it's now completely different and so much better. I finely chopped up two chicken breast and sautéed them with diced onion, chopped garlic, fresh ginger, salt, onion powder, garlic powder and a couple of dashes soy sauce. I added this to the shredded cabbage, added a bag of mung bean sprouts and re-seasoned to taste as necessary. Modifying, or rather changing the recipe made it five-stars.

Sweet Potato Pound Cake

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2012
I made this this evening and I'm still not sure what I think overall. Yes, it was light and fluffy, good texture, but the flavors were a tad too subtle for me. I think I was expecting a more powerful sweet potato taste and just didn't get it.

Hot Artichoke Spinach Dip

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2011
OMG - Yummy for your tummy. I need to preface this review with the fact that I HAD to alter the recipe slightly. I didn't have mozzarella cheese. so I added an additional 1/2 cup Romano cheese and 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese. I also grabbed the wrong measuring cup for the cream and added 1/2 cup. With those changes, this recipe tasted JUST like the Hot Artichoke Spinach Dip from The Daily Grill in downtown Washington DC (M Street & Connecticut). To set it off even more, I buttered some Ciabata bread, sliced it into bread strips and toasted in a 400 degree oven for 7-10 minutes. All I can say is MAGNIFICENT and feel free to unbutton your pants when you eat this!!

Lemon Lover's Pound Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2010
Absolutely excellent recipe. I did not alter the recipe ingredients or measurements at all. However, I did not make the frosting - it's not needed. I did use fresh lemon juice and a high quality flour. The only problem I had was gauging the cooking time and I can only attribute that variations in ovens. My cake took approximately 1 1/2 hours to bake.

Easy Biscuits

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2010
Bland and greasy. Forget trying to modify it with other reviewer's suggestions to make it better. The best way to make these "Easy Biscuits" is to look for another recipe.
