I'm a soon to be 40 yr old Mom who's been living in San Diego for 20 years now. I have 3 kids, and a wonderful husband. My family is the most important thing in the world to me. I have lots of relatives in MN, WI, IA, SD, and here in CA. I come from a long line of cooks, especially on my mother's side of the family.
My favorite things to cook
I'm not sure I have favorites. I just love to cook, and create. About the only things I don't like to cook are super tedious recipes where there are 100 extraneous steps that really don't make the final product any better. I love to bake, but I think I like cooking more, because it's so free. You can add and subtract and substitute almost at will, sometimes creating something entirely new and delicious!
My favorite family cooking traditions
When I was younger, I would answer going to my Grandma & Grandpa's in WI and cooking there with my grandma and my mom and sister. We'd have a huge dinner at around 12:30 or 1 pm, and every time I hear a pressure cooker I think of my grandma. Now, I guess I would say the holiday cooking is my favorite tradition. Lots of it!
My cooking triumphs
I've created several recipes that are big hits with my family and people we know. Shortly after being diagnosed with diabetes, I was frustrated and craving something sweet, so I invented a new cookie. It didn't significantly raise my blood sugar, and it was so good, everyone loved it and no one even guessed it was so good for them!
My cooking tragedies
We've all tried recipes and found them to be bad, so that's not really a tragedy, right? I don't know that I've had any real tragedies, other than the time I had to rush out of the house for an emergency and my beautiful, perfect roasted chicken turned to chicken jerky by the time I was able to get back.
