Thai Beef

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2014
Loved this simple flavorful recipe. Our grocer did not have flank steak so I got inside round marinating steak. The flank would probably have been better, but this was good. Other than reducing the recipe by half (for two people) and stir frying on high (in vegetable oil and a little sesame oil), I followed the recipe as written. My husband and I both loved the flavor. I marinated for a couple of hours, and served as shown in the photo...with fresh green beans and basmati rice. We both would have it again.

German Brotchen Rolls

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2014
These are wonderful. I frequent a farmer's market in Bathurst NB Canada...whose German Frikadellen and Schnitzel are served on these buns with their homemade relish and hot mustard. Delish. These buns are the authentic taste I was looking for. Note...this recipe does make 24 buns. I thought that I would need extra dough for the sandwiches noted above, but not so. I elongated the dough the second batch and this gave me the correct dimensions. I made as recipe directed. Probably did not need the full 7 cups of flour.

Made this as written. It was missing something. Very bland. This recipe was not worth the work involved.

Boston Baked Beans

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2014
This was a great recipe. I used 1/2 cup less beans, but the same amount of sauce. Fabulous. Soaked them overnight and cooked them today. The crock belonged to my grandmother.

Baby Spinach Omelet

Reviewed: Jun. 4, 2013
This was an excellent omelet for one trying to limit meat in their diet. I sauteed some onion while wilting the spinach then added one beaten egg combined with one eggwhite. Else I made it as directed. The nutmeg was a great touch. Since I was making it the night before I did not use tomato as some of the other reviewers suggested, but served the omelet with tomato on the side. Delicious! Eggs are the perfect food! Thanks for this recipe.

Quebec City Sugar Pie with Thick Cream

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2012
Oh this was soooo decadent. Real vanilla extract is the key to the delicious taste. Mix the sugar, flour and salt very well before adding to the wet ingredients (I used a pastry blender). Remember to add the sugar mixture slowly to the wet, mixing well so that the sugar dissolves. I love the fact that the recipe does not require butter as so many others do. Remember that to get this pie right, you'll need to remove it from the oven as soon as the custard is set. I used the oven directions as directed (10 minutes at 400, 40 minutes at 350) and it was perfect. My mother was Acadian, and her recipe could not match this one. My husband and I loved it.

Crustless Spinach Quiche

Delicious. I threw in a cup of chopped ham and a little red pepper. The Muenster is fab! Even better the next day. Served with fresh cherry tomatoes.

Simple Crustless Spinach and Mushroom Quiche

Reviewed: Aug. 30, 2012
I made it as written, and while edible, I found it a little too sour (as in sour cream). I used low fat sour cream, so perhaps if I had used regular sour cream it would have been better.

Ham and Cheese Quiche

Reviewed: May 5, 2012
Yum. The filling was made almost to the letter except for the following. I added 1/4 cup of chopped red onion. I did not have the whole amount of the half and half, so I topped up with evaporated milk. I had two eggs so I added egg white. Instead of the crust (higher in fat), I sprayed the pie plate with PAM, and pressed in 1 1/2 cups of shredded potatoes onto the bottom of the pie plate. Sprayed the potatoes with more PAM and baked for 15 minutes before filling. Delicious. Thanks for the recipe.

very good. I dolloped the half and half over the floured scallops. I melted the butter and mixed in the breadcrumbs. I also added a touch of garlic and onion powder. This was delicious. Would make again.

Very good. Great alternative to a sweet side. Savory flavour. This would be great with roast beef, chicken or turkey. I served it with oven fries and baked scallops. Yum!

Panna Cotta

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2012
Awesome. I scaled back the recipe with no problem. I used fancy desert dishes so no need to try to remove from mould. Also served as shown with blueberries and a piece of decorative chocolate that I created using melted chocolate and my icing piper. I think that it is important to use "real" vanilla...the flavour is terrific.

Caesar Salad Supreme

This dressing is delicious. My husband and I both loved it. The only change I made was to use 1/2 tsp of dry mustard instead of dijon (I didn't have it on hand.)

Sauce Rosee

Reviewed: Mar. 26, 2011
Delish! I typically do not care for sweet sauces, so I did reduce sugar to a pinch as suggested. My chardonney added just the right amount of sweetness. I reduced the wine as well as suggested by other reviewers. Served it will meat filled tortellini, cracked pepper and parmesan. Wonderful! Thank you.
