French Salad Dressing

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2010
This is awesome! I always cut the recipe in half because it makes A LOT. We eat salad about 4-5 times a week and this is our primary dressing. Half a recipe lasts about a month.

Cinnamon Rolls I

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2010
so tasty! I mixed the sugar and cinnamon before sprinkling to ensure even coverage with both. I also melted the butter and brushed it on. Easier than spreading. Turned out perfect. The bottom caramelized a little and that was awesome!

Basic Cream Cheese Frosting

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2010
This was exactly what I wanted it to be. Good texture, and the cream cheese flavor wasn't overwhelming. It definitely had a cream cheese character, but it did not overwhelm my cinnamon rolls.

Miso Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2010
This was so close to what I wanted it to be! I made a few small changes, and next time I will make a few more. The changes: rather than using granules, I made dashi from scratch using the Konbu Dashi recipe from this site. Next time, I will use firm tofu. That's what I usually buy and I find the silken to have an unpleasant texture. To sum up, use broth from scratch and firm tofu and you will be amazed at how easy and delicious this was. I used white miso.

Konbu Dashi

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2010
This was exactly what I needed to make my miso soup shine. Perfect! It will cook down a little though when it simmers, so be sure to add extra water.

Hot and Sour Soup with Bean Sprouts

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2010
This was ok. Not sour enough, and black fungus is a must in hot and sour soup. This could become perfect soup, but would need lots of doctoring first.

Root Vegetable Gratin

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2010
This was ok. Not spectacular. I used acorn squash instead of butternut because that's what I had around. I just didn't feel like this had as much flavor as I wanted.

Sweet and Savory Kale

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2010
I give this 4 stars because I thought it was fantastic, my husband, however, thought it was too vinegary. I will try again with less vinegar next time.

Hot Apple Cider

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2010
Tasty and easy! I used 1/4 tsp each ground allspice and cloves and 1.2 tsp cinnamon and I used a full 2 quarts of apple cider. Floated the fruit in it in a crockpot for about an hour. Then I removed all but one orange and one lemon slice for decoration.

Herb Rubbed Sirloin Tip Roast

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2010
My husband loved this and ir was so easy! I added about a cup of wine to the roasting pan under the rack and covered everything with foil to keep it juicy.

Zucchini Corn Fritters

Reviewed: Aug. 31, 2010
These are pretty good, but nothing to jump up and down about. I am not a fan of ranch, so I just had these with sour cream, and it definitely needed something else. Will try these with a different dip next time. Also made WAY too many. Will have to cut recipe in half next time.

J.P.'s Big Daddy Biscuits

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2010
Yum! needed some biscuits in a hurry. These were easy, fluffy and flavorful! Didn't have any vegetable shortening, so I used butter. Didn't feel like rolling it out, so I just split it up in some extra large muffin tins. This was so quick and easy and had such great results. I will make this many more times!

The Best Chicken Fried Steak

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2010
The steak was spectacular! The gravy, however, was thin - on texture and on flavor. Next time, I will use half as much milk and see if that bolsters it a bit.

Tangy Vegan Crockpot Corn Chowder

Reviewed: Aug. 26, 2010
meh. This wasn't bad, but it wasn't anything to write home about. I think that next time, I will add one of the cans of corn AFTER blending the soup, and maybe try to leave some potatoes in whole chunks. That may make it more interesting to eat at least.

Peanut Butter Noodles

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2010
This is super tasty! As I made it, it would have been 4 stars, but I asked my husband what it needed to be 5 stars and he said "chopped peanuts and thicker sauce." I told him that the recipe calls for chopped peanuts, but I omitted them because we didn't have them and the sauce thickened in the fridge. He proceeded to laugh at me. I will be having the rest of this for lunch tomorrow with some steamed zucchini, carrots and celery. Its really tasty! Do not omit the chili! I substituted some mongolian fire oil, because we always seem to have that on hand. I am a spice wuss, but the flavor really becomes fuller when just a little bit of heat is added. It brings out so much more! I will make this many more times!

Rich Chocolate Frosting

Reviewed: Jul. 1, 2010
pretty darn tasty, and really easy. Required a lot more milk than the recipe said, and mine got a little lumpy, but the flavor is decent. Its a little bitter from the cocoa, but overall, its a nice frosting for the level of effort that it requires.

The Best Potato Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 21, 2010
This was pretty darn good. Nice and tangy. The relish is a good addition. I used cut up dill pickles, because we don't really use relish for anything else and I didn't want to have half a bottle of relish laying around. My husband says it needs bacon. I'm a vegetarian, so we served it at the bbq with a side of bacon bits. That was a hit. :-) Definitely a good potato salad, but needs some tweaking.

Faux Meat Balls

Reviewed: Jun. 17, 2010
These really are very good. I only made half a batch, because I didn't have many eggs. I wish I'd made more for snacks! These are so very tasty! I read the other reviews about them being dry, so about halfway through the baking time I drizzled them with olive oil. I didn't have "italian" breadcrumbs, so I just used plain and added some herbs (to be honest, I don't really pay attention when I'm sprinkling, I just start with oregano and go until it smells right). The flavor is awesome, but there is a "springiness" to their texture that is a little strange. After mixing everything, it was so liquid-y there was no way that I could have shaped this into balls, so I added another 1/2 cup or so of breadcrumbs. In the future, I will use 2 eggs and a little olive oil for a half batch. I think the oil should help with the moistness issue. I recommend trying these.

Vanilla Ice Cream VIII

Reviewed: Jun. 15, 2010
I don't have an ice cream maker, so I just made this in the freezer and stirred it every 15-30 minutes. It was very tasty! not as creamy as I'd like (probably because of the lack of ice cream maker), and not as "full" I think that a custard base would be better, but if you just want ice cream and don't have much on hand, this will hit the spot.
