Cinnamon Toast

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2011
This is comfort food at its most basic. I gave it 4 stars because I think it's better to do what my Granny and Mom do - Set it up as in the recipe, but then put it under the broiler for a couple minutes until the sugar just starts to bubble and caramelize... it's really good! Poor Man's Cinnabon! :)

Omelet Biscuit Cups

Reviewed: May 15, 2008
I have made these and frozen them with great success. Just microwave them until heated through again. Also, for variety, I've made substitutions, like replacing the ham with chopped cooked bacon, breakfast sausage, and even Mexican chorizo. Just use your favorite omelet fillings and have fun. The only thing I will offer is, if you freeze them, try adding a little more cheese to the top when you reheat them... it seems to help them taste fresher.

Vinegar Pecan Pie

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2011
I was amazed at how nice this pie is. I used 1 full cup of pecans, and that was my only change. The filling was not super sweet but still wonderful. This pie was all about the pecans, and not the syrupy custard that most pecan pies have. I will definitely make this again!

Southern Fried Corn

Reviewed: May 16, 2010
The recipe as written was good, but I didn't think it was great. For me, there was too much buttermilk flavor and not enough bacon flavor.

Creamy Dill Dipping Sauce

Reviewed: Apr. 10, 2009
This is a very good, simple sauce. It is excellent with salmon and tuna, as well as vegetables. I served it with salmon and steamed asparagus. It's light and flavorful. Thanks for the recipe!

Feta and Sun-Dried Tomato Stuffed Chicken

Reviewed: Jun. 4, 2010
I made this as written. I found the flavors were wonderful. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars was that I found it was a little dry. I think I would have liked it better if there were a light sauce of some sort to go with it. Great recipe, though!

Saucy Pork Chops

Reviewed: May 1, 2010
I made these, as written , without onions. I have to limit onions due to a sensitivity to them. The chops were moist and fork-tender. The sauce was flavorful... sweet, tart, spicey. It reminded me of a barbecue sauce without the tomato. The only thing I did not like was the sauce being too thin. When the cooking was done, I thickened the sauce and it was fantastic.

Easy Indian Butter Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 19, 2010
My first Indian dish and it was fabulous. I had to find substitution recipes for Garam Masala and Tandoori Masala, because I live in the sticks where there are no ethnic groceries... Even with that, this was a fantastic recipe and I'm keeping it.

Beer Pancakes

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2010
Although these pancakes are indeed very light and fluffy, mine had a definite bitter aftertaste that I did not care for at all. Adding syrup did not help. IF I try this again, I may try the cream soda suggested by someone else... the bitterness was just too unpleasant for me.

Ruby Drive Sloppy Joes

Reviewed: Mar. 27, 2010
I truly enjoyed this recipe. I was afraid the salsa might make it taste too "southwest" but it was just right... and I didn't have to add onions as I do on the recipe I usually use. It's tangy and sweet as sloppy joes are supposed to be. This one is a keeper.

Sean's Falafel and Cucumber Sauce

Reviewed: Jun. 2, 2010
I made these as written, except that I added more cumin because I could not find corriander in my area. I do not own a food processor, so I finely chopped the veggies. I mashed the beans by hand but left some chunkiness. I was very happy with the texture. They made nice patties and held together. I thought the flavor was a little lacking (bland). The falafel I've had in restaurants was much more dramatic in it's flavoring. The sauce, however, was excellent. I do not think I'll make these again, although I may use the sauce a lot.

Very Lemon Cookies (King Arthur)

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2010
Just what I was looking for. Very lemony, with coconut... I used lemon juice and zest, and left out the food coloring. Crisp on the outside and light and moist on the inside... great cookies!

Dill Pickle Meatloaf

Reviewed: May 11, 2010
Moist, flavorful, and the sauce with the pickles really adds a nice touch. I made according to recipe, except, like so many others, I doubled the sauce, and used 1 cup bread crumbs instead of sliced bread... I used a loaf pan rather than a square pan... but it was really good!

Steak Hash

Reviewed: May 9, 2010
I did make one alteration to the written recipe but I don't feel it is all that significant. I was out of garlic powder, so I used Cavender's Greek seasoning, instead of the garlic , salt and pepper. It has those seasonings in it, but also contains a little oregano and other flavors. That being said, I found this to be a wonderful breakfast. The yolk from the fried egg really added to it. This is a keeper!

Amish Sauerkraut Surprise Custard Pie

Reviewed: Mar. 20, 2010
The pie looked nice (I even submitted a photo), but even with other reveiwers suggestions about adding cinnamon, it still tasted too much like saur kraut. The sweet custard was nice, but the cabbage and vinegar from the kraut was too strong. I even used my hands to squeeze as much liquid as possible from the kraout. Even though I like saur kraut, I won't make this again.

Asian Fire Meat

Reviewed: Jun. 3, 2010
Very good recipe, as written. I did Jullienne the carrots instead of chopping them, for prettier presentation.. Next time I will probably add more pepper flakes and maybe some fresh ginger. Thanks for the recipe.
