Brownie Sophisticate

I found a nice sale on strawberries so I bought 2 quarts and brought them home. The first quart went fast, eaten fresh with a little sugar. With the second quart, I wanted to do something a little more special.

I bought some chocolate chips and considered making chocolate-dipped strawberries. In the past, I have had trouble with them getting a little soft before they are all eaten. So, I vetoed that idea.

What to do, what to do?

Scanning the pantry cabinet, I found a box of brownie mix, and a bright light bulb popped over my head. ... strawberries and brownies... oooh!

Looking over various recipe sites, including AllRecipes, it seems whipped cream was in all of them.  I'm not a huge fan of whipped topping, and I do not have any in the house.

I do, however have sour cream.  Hmmm....

I did a little more research, and came up with Brownie Sophisticate.

I stemmed and sweetened the quart of fresh strawberries.

I baked the brownies, with chocolate chips, then I topped them with the sweetened sour cream and baked again for 5 minutes.

When it cooled, I topped with the sugared strawberries.

I hope you'll give this a try, it is rich, sweet, strawberry-chocolate heaven... it's REALLY good!

Yum! I have strawberries I need to use also. I think I'll make a half batch of this. I'll have to make homemade brownies though, no bix mix right now. Thanks!

Sounds yummy, and nice that the sugar levels are so adjustable.

Oh yummy! You just helped me decide what to make for our Mother's Day/Mom's Birthday picnic! I may have to make a "trial run" of it first for me, though!

If I wanted to overload on sugar, I'd be making that right now!

I think you could have a lower sugar/less sweet, but still plenty sweet option by not sweetening the strawberries or the sour cream or using maybe cream cheese in place of the sour cream...if sour cream is too...sour, otherwise.

About Me
I have been cooking most of my life. I was a professional cooking instructor, 2005-2010. I live alone, currently but have cooked for over 200 people 5 days a week, for 5 years. I am now a vocational business instructor.
My favorite things to cook
Comfort foods are my favorite. I love to cook things that make people smile and feel warm inside.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Basic southern cooking, with some ethnic items tossed in. My fatheris the big cook in the family and (still) loves trying new things.
My cooking triumphs
Thanksgiving dinner... a challenge to coordinate, with many bad events in the past. 2007 was finally a complete success! Timing is everything!
My cooking tragedies
... Thanksgiving dinners, again... seems something is usually underdone, overdone, undone... It's almost like I have some kind of mental block when it comes to Thanksgiving.
