I was a latchkey kid growing up and my older sister was not very interested in the kitchen. I had to feed myself, so I started making things that were simple...hamburgers, ground beef and macaroni, chocolate chip cookies, etc. As I got older and moved out on my own, I realized that I had a special talent and would often invite my other single friends over for dinner. They seemed to enjoy it, so I kept at it and I feel like I am constantly improving with each and every dish.
My favorite things to cook
Pasta based recipes are my absolute favorite. We enjoy eating pasta with most of our meals and my family enjoys it any way I make it. From traditional marinara to olive oil and garlic, we love our pasta!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Holiday cookies and fudge were always a fun thing to do in my house growing up. My mother made some incredible fudge and homemade pies.
My cooking triumphs
I make a very delicious, yet very labor intensive canneloni with a creamy tomato sauce. I also make a simple shredded chicken dish that can be used in enchiladas, tacos or our very favorite, tostadas.
My cooking tragedies
My mother in law makes this wonderful bread at Christmas and Thanksgiving. Each year I work along side her, following her every move, yet year after year, my bread comes out flat and tasteless. I want to perfect this bread because I want to carry on the tradition of fresh, homebaked bread for the holidays.
