Eggnog from Scratch

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2010
This was a big hit at the New Years Eve party this year. There wasn't a drop left by the end of the night and several people were asking for the recipe. I used 2 cups of sugar and about 3/4 of the bottle of Captain Morgan Spiced Rum. That was perfect for out tastes, but if you prefer it a little stronger, by all means add the whole thing as the recipe states. This is a keeper for sure and will be a staple at all of my holiday gatherings.

Venison Stew II

We loved this recipe. Simple and tastey! I did saute' a leek along with the onion simply because I had it on hand. It really seemed to lend a wonderful flavor. Other than that, I followed the recipe exactly.

German Apple Cake I

Reviewed: Sep. 24, 2009
I was looking for a good recipe to use up all of the wonderful apples from our trees and this one was a real winner. I took another reviewers suggestion of making a caramel glaze to drizzle over the top and it really made this recipe special. My husband and 2 year old daughter loved this cake. I'll be making this again.

Cream Peas

Reviewed: Sep. 24, 2009
Very good but I found that 2 tablespoons of flour was too much. 1 tablespoon is plenty. The only other change I made was to substitue Splenda for sugar and reduced that amount to 1 tablespoon. This turned out very creamy and very yummy!! I brought this dish to my in-laws to serve with my pasta dish and they loved it!

Authentic German Potato Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 29, 2009
Very good, very simple recipe. Absolutely use the red skinned potatoes. No need to peel them. I just cut them into bite size pieces and boiled just until tender. We will definitely make this again.

Tiramisu II

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2009
I made this in a trifle bowl and brought it to a graduation party. Very good!! I did double up on the coffee/liquor mixture and used a pastry brush to coat the lady fingers. I layered everything in the trifle bowl and let it sit for 2 days. I highly recommend making this a couple of days ahead of time as other reviewers have suggested. I was really worried that the lady fingers would be soggy, but they weren't! The flavors just aren't the same if you serve this the same day.

I love this! No need to buy expensive, prepackaged seasoning again! Most of us have everything we need on hand to make this as needed. Great recipe!

Annie's Fruit Salsa and Cinnamon Chips

Reviewed: Jun. 18, 2009
Really delicious! I used apricot preserves and added peaches. For the chips, I highly recommend spraying the tortillas on both sides with butter flavor cooking spray and then coating with cinnamon sugar mixture. (I do this on some wax paper to cut back on the mess.) Stack the tortillas, then cut them into triangles. This was a huge hit with my friends and family!

Original Irish Cream

Reviewed: Jun. 18, 2009
This has been a favorite recipe of mine for years! I especially love to bring it as a gift to give to the hostess at holiday parties! As others have suggested, I too like to reduce the amount of almond extract to about 1/4 tsp. and then add a 1/4 tsp. of coconut extract as well. PLEASE...DO NOT USE HALF AND HALF, OR MILK! Especially not skim milk! Irish Cream is meant to be a rich, creamy, decadant drink, and in my opinion, doing that really takes away from that. But to each his own! Also, I do usually reduce the amount of whiskey to about a cup or just a tad over that. Using the full amount listed here is fine if you like it strong!

Amish White Bread

Reviewed: Jun. 18, 2009
This bread is simple and delicious with just the right amount of "sweet"! It's best when served warm. I let it cool on a rack for about 20 minutes before serving. All this needs is a little butter, and yum...I could eat the whole loaf by myself! This was also a huge hit with my 2 year old daughter.

Best Brownies

Reviewed: Jun. 18, 2009
I brought these to a casual outdoor wedding last weekend and they were very well received. They were moist, chewy, sweet and very chocolately. I didn't change a thing! The only thing I did was double the recipe and made it in a 9x13 pan. I did not double the frosting recipe however! The original amount was just enough for a thin layer of frosting, which for me is just enough since I don't usually frost my brownies. This is a great recipe and best of all it's very simple to make with ingredients that I almost always have on-hand. I'll never buy a box mix again!

Amish Macaroni Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 18, 2009
I decided on this pasta salad to serve at my daughters 2nd birthday party. It was wonderful. I took other reviewers advice and cut the amount sugar. I used Miracle Whip dressing and apple cider vinegar in place of regular vinegar. I also used bowties instead of macaroni and used the whole box, not just 2 cups. Do make sure if you are making this ahead to only add half of the cream mixture to the pasta, reserving the other half to be added just before serving. This ensures a wonderful, creamy pasta salad.

Mini Ham And Cheese Rolls

Reviewed: Jun. 3, 2009
I make these often for all types of social gatherings and they never fail to dissapear. I'm always asked for the recipe and of coarse, I'm happy to share! I do as others have suggested and soften the butter then mix in the other ingredients, and spread inside each roll. Next I add the ham and cheese, melt the remainin butter mixture, or make more and pour over the top of the rolls just before baking.

Banana Crumb Muffins

Reviewed: Jun. 2, 2009
I had to give these a try after seeing all of the rave reviews. I had some overripe bananas that I needed to do something with and this seemed like the perfect recipe to try. This was absolutely wonderful as is. I made mini muffins instead of the regular sized. The batter made enough for exactly 24. I baked them for exactly 13 minutes and they came out perfectly!! My 2 year old daughter just loves these, as do I!

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie

Reviewed: May 6, 2009
The flavor of these cookies are fantastic! However, mine the next day were no longer soft, even in the middle. I stored them in a ziplock bag, but they still turned hard. I'm afraid I may have maybe over-baked them just a tad. Will try again and see what happens by taking them out a couple of minutes earlier.

Yummy Honey Chicken Kabobs

Reviewed: May 1, 2009
Excellent recipe! I follow other suggestions and doubled the marinade. I only used 4 chicken breasts, but they were HUGE. Marinated chicken breasts, onions and pinapple (I didn't have a bell pepper) with about 3/4 of the marinade for 2 hours. I also chopped up 3 cloves of garlic and added that to the marinade as well. Make sure that you keep the heat of your grill at about 350-375. As long as you do, the chicken and the veggies cook up nice and evenly at the same time. You'll have to gauge the cooking time though. Ours took closer to 25 minutes before they were done. I used the last of the marinade for basting the kabobs towards the end, when they were just about done. This chicken turned out very moist and flavorful. A definite keeper!

World's Best Lasagna

This is a great lasagna recipe. It holds together beautifully and all of the flavors are perfect! Though time consuming, it's actually very simple to prepare. No need to boil the lasagna noodles though. They cook up perfectly in the oven.

The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Apr. 22, 2009
We loved these big, soft, not too sweet sugar cookies! I placed the dough in the freezer for about 30 minutes and it rolled out beautifully between 2 sheets of wax paper. This makes a lot, so I froze some of the dough to make another time.
