Maple Pecan Shortbread Squares

Reviewed: Jun. 17, 2011
I made these without nuts because of possible allergies. My co-workers loved these. the caramelized brown sugar and maple on top was amazing. And the bars were chewy, buttery, and sweet! I will be making this again!

Baked Dijon Salmon

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2010
I used salmon trout instead of salmon. It's cheaper. I used honey dijon, but also used honey. And as suggested by some reviewers, i poured all the sauce on the fish and them sprinkled the bread crumbs on top to absorb it. I thought it gave the fish more flavor rather than just brushing it on. The pecans were awesome. My only complaint is that the crust started burning a bit, i'd suggest placing a foil on top of the fish, so that it cooks, but not burn. You can remove the foil near the end so the crust can turn golden brown. I loved this recipe!

Garam Masala Seared Salmon with Coconut-Curry Butter

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2009
I used Rainbow Trout instead of Salmon, and baked the Trout instead of searing it. But when i baked it, i forgot to rub it with garam masala. The sauce is really good, however, it took me about 20 min to reduce it. I also had to use some sugar and salt to add a bit of taste to the sauce. It was really great on the fish. We loved it.

Apple Turnovers

Reviewed: May 8, 2012
I didn't have time to make a big fancy dessert for a friend's dinner party, so I whipped a batch of these. Quick and easy. Really yummy! My hostess asked me for the recipe afterwards too.

Scallops with White Wine Sauce II

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2010
My favorite way to make scallops. I do step 2 of the recipe, cook the scallops in the sauce, put them aside. Add spinach and cooked pasta, toss. Serve with scallops on top! Love it!

Traditional Osso Buco

Reviewed: May 8, 2012
I don't really care for osso bucco in general, but when i made this for my husband, he loved it! I froze the leftovers and he had it again 2 weeks later and said it was still amazing. He rarely raves about my cooking that way. A recipe that gets a rave from my husband has to be worth 5 stars.

Banana Crumb Muffins

Reviewed: Dec. 31, 2009
My boyfriend isn't a sweets kinf od person, but when i made these, he requested them again. He is now happy when our bananas are too ripe, cause then i can make banana muffins. I have made these twice and both times i used 2 medium bananas instead of three. Both times it was what I had in the kitchen. They still come out fine. I use a different cumb topping recipe though: 3/4 stick unsalted butter, melted (about 6 tbs) 1/4 cup packed brown sugar 1/4 cup granulated sugar 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon 1/8 teaspoon salt 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour this makes a lot, I usually freeze whatever I cannot finish and use it the next time i make this.

Chicken Cordon Bleu II

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2009
I love creamy dishes and especially cooking with wine. This was good except the chicken was not cooked inside. I would recommend baking the chicken after the browning. I also found the cornstarch to lump in the whipping cream. I'd dilute the cornstarch with a bit of water before mixing it in with the whipping cream. The sauce needs a dash of salt.

Stuffed Peppers My Way

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2009
I subbed the italian seasoning with Mrs Dash. I also cooked some ground beef to make the recipe "boyfriend approved". I just cooked the ground beef with the green onions. Then drained the fat, added the basil, Mrs Dash, a bit of pepper, salt, and cayenne pepper. I've made stuffed peppers before. I can't recall which recipe i used, but was very disappointed. But this one is a winner.

Pesto Pasta with Chicken

Reviewed: Sep. 12, 2008
I use spaghetti pasta instead of bowties. I also added yellow and green peppers and onions. I forgot the garlic and red pepper flakes, and omitted the oil. I added parmesan cheese. It was simple and decilious. I wasn't sure if my boyfriend would like it, but he did. It's such a quick meal to prepare after a long day at work and a big workout at the gym. I would make it again and again.

Pineapple Chicken Tenders

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2008
I used boneless chicken leg cut into cubes to serve as a bite sized hors-d'oeuvre for a party. I marinated the chicken overnight. The marinade tenderized the chicken nicely. Instead of grilling it, I just cooked it in a skillet. The sauce caramelized nicely on the chicken. I boiled the extra marinade until reduced to a thick sauce, which I served on the side. My boyfriend and I liked it. I'd make it again and serve it on rice.

Chunky Potato Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2008
I have never made potato soup before. This was pretty easy. I had a can of chicken broth and it did not measure up to 1 1/2 cups. It came to a little over a cup, so i had to add water. But 1 1/2 cups of water was not enough to cover my potatoes, celery, carrots, and onions to simmer. So I had to add an additional cup and a half of water. To compensate, I had to use salt, so it wouldn't be bland. I added Thyme, garlic powder, parsley flakes, and a bit of cayenne pepper. The result was great. I loved it. Right before serving i used cheddar and some bacon bits. I would make again!

Lahmahjoon (Armenian Pizza)

Reviewed: Jun. 18, 2009
I decided to try this recipe after it was featured on the front of allrecipes. I can't recall if I have ever tried Lamahjoon before, but the recipe looked easy and quick to make. As suggested by the recipe, I made the filling the day before to let the flavors blend, and I think this does make a difference. I used ground beef instead of ground lamb, because im not a fan of lamb. I also used dried mint leaves crushed, it was what I had. And used yellow bell pepper instead, but i think it gave it a nice sweetness. This came out pretty good and I liked how the pita was pefectly crispy, sadly it`s not great to bring as a lunch to work. The pita gets a bit mushy. My fiancee liked it and I think i'll be making this again.

Bangers and Mash

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2009
I used spicy italian sausage and canned gravy. Sausage was good, gravy was good, mashed potatoes was good. The recipe itself is pretty simple to make and is pretty good meal, but it's time consuming making your own mash potatoes. Now something you want to make on a hot summer day.

Banana Banana Bread

Reviewed: Jun. 9, 2012
I added a bit of cinnamon and vanilla extract to the recipe. It turned out great and took exactly 1 hour to make. The bread was moist, but a little denser than i wanted. You know the recipe is good when a picky 5year old likes this. I'd make this again.

Balsamic-Glazed Salmon Fillets

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2010
I followed the recipe as it was written. Instead of brushing, i poured the glazed on top of the fish and shoved it in the oven. The night i made it, i thought it was just okay, when i had it on top of my salad the next day, i liked it a lot. I think the flavors blend into the fish overnight. I'd make this again if I knew I was having salad the next day.

Thai Chicken Wings

Reviewed: Mar. 6, 2010
I used drumsticks instead of wings. These came our delicious! I liked them a lot. As suggested by another reviwer, i dredged my drumsticks in flour and then fried them in oil in a frying pan. After it is browned, i set them on a lined baking sheet and made the sauce. I used a bit less fish sauce, and i only had 1.5 tsp of paprika, which turned out to be perfect for my taste. I skipped the jalapenos and used garlic chili sauce, about 2 Tbs. Instead of putting cornstarch directly in the sauce, i mised the cornstarch with equal amounts of water to dilute it and make a slurry. Then added it to the sauce to thicken. I dipped my drumsticks in the sauce and baked for about 15 min, then turned them, brushed with more sauce and baked another 10min. (bake time is different for wings). I would make this again with wings.

Roast Sticky Chicken-Rotisserie Style

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2010
The spice mix is awesome! I would use this spice mix again. However I did not use the cooking times because I don't have that kind of time. I had it at 450F for an hour. Whent he top started to brown, i placed an aluminium foil on top (just float on the top) I have never had my chicken so tender and juicy, especially the chicken breasts. I marinated about 4 hours. And baked breast side up.

Slow Cooker Mongolian Beef

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2009
This was my first time buying flank steak, and i think it's a very good meat cut for this recipe. I did not find this recipe to be too salty nor toow sweet, however, i did use 1.5 cups of water instead of just 1/2 cup. I also did not slow cook, i made it on the stove top and let it simmer on low for about 30 minutes. I think if i had simmered it for another 30 minutes, the steak would ahve been perfectly tenderized, but not mushy. My boyfriend was a little bit indifferent about the recipe, but i quite liked it. I added mushrooms and a few dashes of cayenne pepper.
